Did everyone miss the boat on Henry because he was big and from Alabama?

I was wrong about this kid, and happy to admit it. He looks like a beast, a better version of EG.

Were you wrong about Henry as a player or just didn't think a second should be used in a RB?

Let's not get overblown. Elliot just displayed all the elements you look for in a modern-day running back. Shiftiness, quickness, the ability to break tackles but catch the ball out of the backfield. Henry just didn't get the opportunity to show all his skills at Alabama his height also hurt him too.

But why didn't Elliott win the heisman? If he looked like the all around back.

Alabama relied on Henry more ... and I believe they won more games did they not? You don't want me to list the endless amount of heisman winning players that didn't amount to jack while the runner up became an NFL star do you?

Do you think a team would have spent a first on him if they knew he was going to look this dominant?

It's certainly possible.  It depends on the team.  Like I said before, a lot of teams aren't in the market for a big back because it doesn't fit their offense and it's not something they value enough to use a first rounder on.  Many other teams already have a bell cow.  I think you can look around the league and say for certain there were 20 teams who definitely would not have used a first round pick on him.

It also doesn't make sense to have this discussion in absolutes.  Were there some teams who did miss the boat on him?  Yes, there probably were.  But at the same time, there were probably lots of other teams who did not miss the boat, they just didn't value what he brings to the table enough to spend a high draft pick.

This discussion would make a ton more sense if we grabbed Henry in the 4th or 5th round after all 32 teams had passed on him 4-5 times.  But that isn't what happened.  We took him in the middle of the 2nd round, which is where most projected he would be taken.  I honestly don't think he would have made it out of the third if we didn't take him.

Henry topped 2k yards. That's why he won the Heisman. He was an amazing college player; just amazing. He broke records at Alabama, which has had lots of great backs and a great system for them.

As for NFL, it's all been mentioned---height, size, small hands, upright running....teams were worried that he's not a complete back. We got lucky, and I'm happy about it.

You know, I'm glad people have come around on Henry but it was a lonely island pre draft as I was trying to explain to people why I thought Henry could be a good player for our system.

Its easy to claim victory after you're proven right. It's much harder to put yourself out there at the expense of being wrong.

Respect for the guys who were wrong on Henry and came in here and admitted it.

Those who risk nothing deserve no glory.

I told this board when I joined they just got one of the best RBs that they will ever see and a guy who is humble and will outwork most everyone.

Henry is a mans man and all those here who hated the pick have had their eyes opened.  I just tried to let you in on that secret 2 months ago.

I had no worries or doubt he would prove me right. Been around him for far too long to not know what he is made of inside and out.  This team is going to make some waves this year.
