Having a good situational running game is very important. You need a good running game to convert short yardage and to run out the clock with a lead. There are fronts and personnel you want to run against. Being able to do so gives you versatility in the post-season and allows you to take advantage of weaker teams in the regular season. Some games are shootouts. Some games are defensive struggles. Some game might require grinding it out more. Some games you might need a big ST play. Yeah, the Pats are a passing team primarily. But even they, especially in Dec, will run more power with Blount. The Pats are a high volume passing team but were forced to play a defensive struggle in the AFC Championship. We do know that they're going to run a lot, and that in the past he's run more than the average NFL team. His statements and his past suggest that a situation looks like a running situation to him more often that it does for other NFL teams. Obviously, this can work if your rushing attack is very good.
