It's not a distance race with a finish line beyond which all further distance is null. There is no 'you made it' achievement. Success is a relative comparison between what was achieved and what might have been achieved. No matter what was achieved, there is always more potential. How much more potential you think there is will drive your opinion on the need for change. This post has a lot of very smart sounding words and analysis in it but, to be blunt, it is kind of bullshit. Wins and playoffs is the only measuring stick. I think any realistic fan this year has to expect there will be a bit of an adjustment and growing pains. Nevertheless, not making the playoffs this season even would be a failed season. If we are in every game or most every game, and come up a game or two short of the playoffs, I think people could say things are working. But if we aren't in the thick of the division and making the playoffs most years, we can say it failed. If we are a legit playoff team year in year out, then we can say it worked. Huh? Don't get it twisted. Winning IS the entertainment. There is no entertainment in losing, no matter how you lose. I am a Titans and Vandy fan. Believe me, I know. On the other hand, there is no greater entertainment than a winning team, however it is they win.

How exciting were those 2-14 and 3-13 finishes? That is the kind of crap scheme a dumbass like Jamal faps to.

This is awfully passive-aggressivey and martyry. The guy's post was heavy handed but if you get past the hurt feelings you will see there is some truth to what he says. Folks feel embarrassed by the idea of "smashmouth" football in this era. The point is, if we win, who cares?

We should contend for the division every year, and make the playoffs more often than not. Anything less should be considered a failure, IMO. With expectations tempered just a bit for this year, and this year only. But absolutely this team should more than double the wins from last year. Why are we more entertained by a team winning ugly rather than losing with a host of elite athletic plays? And if one did decide that the elite plays was more entertaining- how the heck would that be more shallow?!?

Seriously? "You play to win the game." I mean, I don't know how to respond to this. The whole point of rooting for your sports team is for them to win. Winning is fun. Losing sucks ass. Come on. The Seahawks win ugly sometimes. The Lions lose in spectacular air it out fashion. Whose fans do you think are more entertained? What was more fun - the Eddie George/early McNair years, or the Wisenhunt years?

begooode
Wow. We are talking about football here I hope. A bit of a tangent, but I'm hearing the same "but, we want to look pretty, and, sure, winning would be great, too" sentiments that Lakers fans used to complain about when Shaq was brutalizing the league and delivering championships. However, the 'entertainment' fans wanted ShowTime, not an overpowering 350lb center-driven low post game. "yeah it works,... but,... but,... you know,... It's not modern, lots of passing, entertaining,... and,... it's holding back Kobe"
