LBJ got the Civil a Rights Act passed, but that's not the issue. It isn't about Democrats vs Republicans over the history of the country. LIBERALS have moved us forward on civil rights forever. It hasn't always been a liberal Democratic Party and a conservative Republican Party. Today, the liberals are Democrats. The Republican Party used to have plenty of liberals, but those days are long gone. The GOP can't even keep around moderates anymore much less liberals. Republicans went from educated urban citizens centered in Northeastern states to southern rural people as its base. Democrats did the opposite change.
