Since it will be a lot of work and probably too much to handle for a rookie (especially one that never got comparable/long term experience in HS and College) you have to choose ONE position for Ramsey. Most people praise the guy for his versatility but that is pretty far-fetched as a rookie and probably even as a sophomore. Down the line, I fully expect us to gameplan specifically with him and be the cornerstone of the D but no chance he changes position week in and week out, let alone every other play. If you take him at #1, then he almost has to be a CB. I think CB is the more important position but I personally can't justify drafting him and not playing him like Polamalu. IMO, he needs to stay up near the linebackers and when he diagnoses the play he uses his athleticism to attack the ball or get in a defensive position. I'd rather him be in contention to blow up every play than limit the opponents #1 receiver and they just march down the field with options 2-5. I agree that normally a "shutdown corner" would be more valuable than a safety, but first I don't think Ramsey translates to that kind of corner, and 2 in todays NFL a dominant versatile safety can be just as important. Corner can be very limiting. How do we need him there the most? Johnson and Searcy are serviceable. McCourty is coming back from injury and Cox is better in the slot. I wouldn't say we're only looking at him as a CB, but I think they would focus on that first. If he really is all that people seem to think he is, it will show up from the FS position before it would at corner. And the year he had his best college production was as a safety. The fact that we have Johnson to play FS I could really see Ramsey doing both in his first year. Then in year 2 play him at which one he is the best at. And consider DLB likes dynamic safeties, I'd be a bit disappointed if he didn't play safety. DLB plays a lot of zone iirc too. Not much point in drafting a zone corner that high. I'm the most physical defensive back and that's how I play at every level. I have good footwork and can play with the smaller receivers.
