If/when Mularkey fails, OMAN will blame it on either the lack of talent Robinson acquired or on Mariota not being good enough. Coaching is irrelevant to him.

Oman will want mularkey to get a fourth chance, hes never really had a fair shot.

Just out of curiosity, if you had said that about the Whis hire, how many here do you think would have agreed with you?

knowing just what we knew back then about his coaching abilities outside of warner... i'd say it wouldnt be too far off.

he was intriguing more than impressive

3 year deal = short leash, by definition

I can see why someone might feel that way but I'm more inclined to say a short leash is when immediate results are required.

I don't think Mularkey will be canned if they open 0-4 or anything, so I wouldn't say he's on a short leash. 0-4 might put him on a short leash but even then I doubt it. They want stability. I think they'll give Mularkey a chance to let his processes and style germinate.

in 3 years MM will be entering his prime.  This is why Mularkey took the deal.......he knows what he has in MM.

in 3 years the coaching staff we hire after we fire mularkey will be getting ready for its second season..

AND possibly drafting the QB they like

There was word that a big reason Robinson was the top guy was because he was willing to work with Mularkey. If Robinson feels Mularkey is putting his job in jeopardy he will ship him out. I could see that being after 2016 or mid 2017. Mularkey put together an experienced staff but not a relevant staff so it looks bad. I think we will show progress but it wont be enough to get us to .500. We will end up in the bottom 5 again and could be having the same conversations next off season.

Mularkey took the deal because no one else in the league was going to make him a HC.  It was either sign that deal or go back to being a TE coach.  Nice spin doctor.
