Hell of a job on Jamaal Charles

Charles final stat line:

7 car 19 yards 0 TD

4 rec 15 yards 0 TD

34 total yards. I would've figured Charles would have 34 yards by the first drive.

Great job by Horton and co. Tackling was much better. Heck of a job containing Charles. This team has a ways to go, but a great first win. No one gave us much of a chance to beat the Chiefs at their place in the home opener.

We did well against him, but I'm still stunned the Chiefs just totally went away from him. Even in the passing game, they didn't really try to get him involved.

So was I, they really didn't even try to get him involved much in the offense. He only had 11 touches the entire game, who would have picked our defense over Charles in FFB today?

It had more to do with their playcalling.

You're right, it's not like he was totally ineffective early on. I kept wondering when the game was still close why they weren't trying to give him the ball more, he's their whole offense basically.

It was a hell of a great job on a Pro Bowl RB. Still though I will temper my enthusiasm at this point. The KC offensive line is in a horrible state right now. Also the WRs for KC are terrible which makes it easier to load up against the run.

I think it was a smart move to go away from Charles. BUT, they tried to force it to Avery, which was stupid. Using Charles as a decoy could have been really smart, but no one else stepped up.

Our defense looked VERY good.

What? Charles accounts for 37% of their total yards from scrimmage on offense and is basically their entire offense. By going away from him early they became more predictable and were much easier to defend.
