Bortles is the only rookie in the conversation. I don't care if he takes another snap this year, we are not drafting a QB high next year. To be fair you really have no idea whether the last 4 weeks has been enough for the Titans to forego drafting a QB next year. Only time will tell. Well if Mettenberger continues to show in practice, knowing what you've seen, would YOU take one of the hybrid QB's coming out next year if you were Whisenhunt or sign a veteran to a 1 or 2 year deal (or roll with Whitehurst) and give the job to Mettenberger? I sure as hell know what I'd do. And I really think given the type of QB that Mettenberger is that Whisenhunt would do the same thing. I think you and I are both in agreement that if the Titans DO take a QB in one of the 1st 2 rounds that they do not have future plans for Mettenberger as the QB of the future. If I had to guess I doubt Whisenhunt has even given much thought to it with the season getting ready to start. Mettenberger's next test will be how he performs if he gets real game action this year. That isn't a given unless Locker goes down for a significant amount of time. Your premise is so far off base as to no longer function in reality. You're still stuck in this realm of investment cost and opportunity. All of that goes out the window when a kid shows this kind of talent. Also, as Rogue noted earlier, your ROI is.much greater on a 6th panning out than a 1st, so your argument is null and void from basically every angle. He's definitely shown enough that we are not drafting a QB high unless he is an immaculate prospect, and there isn't one in next year's draft. You're never going to know if any QB is the answer until he's given the opportunity. That isn't the point. The point is do you go to Mettenberger, a guy that Whisenhunt has watched over and over again for the past year and by all accounts has been overly impressive or do you go to some other rookie that doesn't know the playbook. You can't be refering to yourself here because you said something along the lines of "I purposely avoided watching and critiquing Mett. I'm not a NFL talent scout. What can I know!?" So you must be speaking for others...who are they? I can think of a few who questioned his talent, at least early on, which is a place in time that can not be described as "never". How could you say you don't have a greater ROI on a 6th rounder producing at the same level as a 1st? You're paying him less and used less resources to gain tge same amount of production.
