NFL considering giving 15-yard penalty for on-field use of racial slur

Baltimore Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome, who also serves on the NFL's competition committee, said the NFL is considering adding a rule for the 2014 season where players would be penalized for using the N-word on the field during games.

My only reservation is that it could be so easily disputed. Who really said it, was it really said, who said it first to whom, etc.

 

 

Now that I'm thinking about it, that could make it too much trouble than it's worth.

What's next? Curtailing curse words? The refs can barely call fouls on the rules they already have. Now they're supposed to be thought police too?

 

There are too many reasons why this is a ridiculous idea and is nothing but a slippery slope into even more ridiculous ideas.

Or how about insulting your momma, or calling your wife/girlfriend ugly or a ho.  

 

That should really get interesting when the ref accounces a 15 yeard penalty on number 26 for saying the N word.   Wonder if the NFL could be found liable if the guy got beat up afterwards or even threatened.

I would say that the 15 yard penalty should be for any racial slur.  Of course, that would present a problem since one of their official team names is a racial slur.
