Players are streaking open on several plays, but the progressions aren't being given a chance to develop. Seems like a full combination of Jake trying to get rid of the ball quick (which is fine), the line not protecting well enough, and Loggains lack of aggression. This isn't meant to be a shot at Jake or Loggains, because I understand the plan was to get the ball out quick. But in the weeks to come, we have to stretch the field more. I think his long 3rd down conversions kept it from a C grade. Solid B, or B-. He played better than I thought initially based on the receiver play. I initially gave him a C. On the pass play to Walker where they were off on communication, and Locker threw it to the inside, and walker went to the outside... It was a 3rd down play... On the pass play to Walker where they were off on communication, and Locker threw it to the inside, and walker went to the outside... It was a 3rd down play... Williams was wide open streaking to the endzone... Had about 4 steps on his man... Question- How do you know if its a bad read if you don't know the order of his progressions? Too bad I don't have the answer lol I just figure if he would of scanned the entirety of the play... He would of noticed Williams streaking to the endzone with his defender a few steps behind... Don't get it wrong I as big of a fan of Jake as anyone on here... But there are a few plays where the guy is wide open, and he tries forcing the pass to someone else... Something that will fix itself Turner didn't help either... Him being out of sync with Jake already put added pressure on him... The defense knew when the ball was going to be snapped, and Locker was already in hurry up mode before the ball was in his hands... That can't happen... Yeah but that's not how the reads generally work from my understanding especially if they're mostly presnap. It's about routes vs coverages. If the reads dictated that Williams wasn't going to be open then he doesn't even look that way. Not saying that was the case here or not but just that I don't know. Say he reads cover 3 and Williams has a deep route called then he's probably not looking that way, same w/ man cover 2. Now if it was Britt or Hunter, it could change things. Bobo Posted September 12, 2013 Report Share Posted September 12, 2013 It's going to be interesting to see how this line performs, and there's different angles to look at it that I see. We've only seen 1 week, and it was a fairly daunting task against the Steelers. The line has lots of new pieces, and OL's have to "gel", right? Maybe we shouldn't have strong beliefs after week 1...but I want to over analyze anyway... Does the line have some physical limitations? Stewart may be becoming more of a liability with age, wear n tear, and the fact he wasn't fleet footed to begin with. Warmack is a big, heavy footed guy. I imagine his technique can improve and surely his knowledge of the game too, but I'm afraid his lack of quickness is just sometimes going to get him burnt. Turner is a fairly unknown FA, his credentials aren't going to give anyone peace of mind. Just from what I've seen so far, he has good athleticism, but he's not a very strong guy. Maybe his technique needs work (what I infer from reading guys in this thread saying Munch was talking about his set against the Steelers)? Schwekne is actually a similar guy to Turner from what I've seen, but I hope he can offer up more strength. Seems they may value quickness most at C, but hope they don't have guys who will get mauled in the middle. I remember reading that Jake had a bad OL in college, he was often hurried, maybe panicking, and hurt his performance overall. We've had OL issues too. Has he ever had a consistently solid pass blocking OL? How much do you suffer by not being able to get into a rhythm? To add to that, he may have started his NFL career under a system not best suited for him. Maybe we have a better system now, but it's going to be frustrating if we can't give Jake the protection to match. If that's the case, the whole issue of Jake just gets more cloudy at the time when we need to know for sure what we have. It's gonna be a fun year! Look at Polamalu break on the underneath route to try and stop Wright (who is wide open - but short of the 1st down marker). Jake instead throws deeper to hit Nate just past the first down marker with a frozen rope, that is perfectly positioned into a pretty tight window.
