TitansGuru
I don't really care about attracting more casual fans to be honest. I've laid out my intentions a few times to a few people in DMs. I'm not trying to do anything other than generate content and not just reblog and repost like the other sites. I mean, I still want to do that. That is our core. After all, this place is and always will be a message board more than anything. I just think that this place can also be a vehicle for people to ask tough questions and get answers if we can build to that. We're not a homer board. We're probably the only Titans site that isn't homer. We want to see the team win but won't proclaim a turd from the organization to be anything but a turd because we are told. We're also the most hard core and loyal fans. We don't jump off the bandwagon. We're more knowledgeable as a whole than the other places. That's our identity and our niche. I just want our niche to have more of a voice and more of a reach. We just have to build up to that. Which involves getting into more people's mailboxes. Which involves getting original content. Which involves getting writers who can consistently put out work. To be honest, this place is still going to be sink or swim for writers. Most writers will have to adjust and will be better for it. cenj
Good lord, if you want better articles then get off your lazy ass and write one yourself. Some of you guys have no idea how childish and self-entitled you sound. And I even agree on some points -- these articles aren't going to do much for the regular posters. But no writer is going to -- for free -- do hours of research and film study to put together the type of article most on here want. All for the personal entertainment of strangers on the internet, and to be received with general condescension. It's up to us to raise the bar. The same posters bitching about Jamal's articles are generally the ones who provide the absolute least substance to the board. Stop spending hours everyday complaining about all things Titans and all posters who disagree with you, and start giving some evidence to back up the brilliant football knowledge some of hacks claim to have. Eighteen
Only read the first page but damn, this was not what I was expecting when I opened this thread. This is much more interesting than I anticipated!! Btw, is Merc on his period or something? I'm sure soxcat would know.

IsntLifeFunny
As much as I think original content is awesome, I think everyone replying with any negativity wants the same thing that most want: Do not, in any manner, allow TR to become like Bleacher Report. Don't even allow it to become like MCM (which is also awesome). New content definitely has benefits and drawbacks, but when the content doesn't add anything that posters can't get from BR, Titansonline, or MCM to a lesser extent, then you guys really run the risk of watering down your product and possibly losing original content in the form of actual posts and not articles. This place has the best Titans conversations and some of the best football conversations I've been a part of, so I just wanted to add my take. The only reason I'm saying anything is because this website, in only 5 months, has immensely helped my debating techniques, while also educating me on some aspects of football. To put the very unique environment of TR in danger is something I would be wary of if I were an administrator. I think Hall, Sharona, and the Big guy (something like that) have a place here, but they should be allowed to be ran through the ringer like everyone else for their own good (just like I was in the VY epic thread for making one non-nonsensical comment and catch flak 47 pages later). TR is truly not for the weak of heart.
Jamalisms
There's very little about the forums that needs to or would change as a result of having a few more things on the front page, regardless of what they were. It could be instructions for putting together a couh from IKEA and nothing about the forums is affected apart from the fact that a corresponding thread is created. It's just not the issue it is made out to be.

It's just not the issue it is made out to be. Forums would only change if there is a conscious effort to change the negativity through increased moderation. If that is not the intention then new writers or posters should expect h usual degree of lawless negatively that is normally associated with this forum. Any posts complaining about the general negativity regarding either articles or posts is a waste of time. TitansGuru
This whole thread has turned out way more productive and enlightening than I thought it would. Going to move these to their own thread but keep the conversation going. I'm taking a lot from it.

Going to move these to their own thread but keep the conversation going. I'm taking a lot from it. @TitansGuru I know there has been an on-going effort to collect roster photos that are royalty free. Perhaps when that element comes online it would be worthwhile for some of these writers to do updates/blurbs similar to Rotoworld? (Maybe have notifications in the top bar when there are new blurbs for players / coaches). This also allows player grading to occur (similar to PFF). It would be a neat and tidy way of pushing new content without trying to reinvent the wheel or move the viewers eyes to a front page format.

Perhaps when that element comes online it would be worthwhile for some of these writers to do updates/blurbs similar to Rotoworld? I would be okay with that. It's just a question of whether there would be comments on there with the corresponding thread on the board. Basically, I don't want the place to be cluttered with reblogs but most threads start out as that so it wouldn't be a bad thing. Maybe just remove the link back to the article on those since it would basically be a thread at that point. Now you have me thinking in a different way again. Rotoworld style blurbs which are really just threads anyways. These would be identical to normal threads but would appear on the update. Injury reports would be included with these. That combined with game recaps and then detailed, stimulating original articles might be the best approach. I could even build player pages that could be tagged and have their salary, injuries and related news on there.

That combined with game recaps and then detailed, stimulating original articles might be the best approach. I could even build player pages that could be tagged and have their salary, injuries and related news on there. My belief is that a mash-up of Rotoworld and PFF might be best with it's own landing place (tab on the top bar that takes you to a different page layout/format). But perhaps any comments/replies on a Rotoworld style blurb/update would create a thread for that update for users to comment on(so that an update doesn't automatically generate a new thread so it's not re-blogging by default). Any interesting blurb worthy of discussion would be decided by a user and it would take that discussion automatically to the forum. You could make that Rotoworld/PFF esque page be the "front-page" for casual Titans fan's perusal and general information but anyone looking to engage would be pulled into the forum. I'm sure that sounds a bit unclear. But say in a hypothetical scenario that you have multiple updates after a Pre-Season game. Some might talk about production, a notable play or two or an injury. This would all exist on the front page (like Rotoworlds Player News - which could be implemented in a more elegant way). Say if I chose to make a comment about a notable play or status update, it would take my comment and generate a thread in the forum with the original status update / blurb and my corresponding reply/comment. The front-page element would be of particular use for all users (including myself) as a Titans' centric alternative to Rotoworld/PFF (assuming we don't homer it up, which we won't). If the comments are tied into the forum, there would be a very strong relationship between the front-page element and the forum. And another note (apologies for the scattered thoughts) - it would be a lot easier for writers/authors as there might be an easy division of work. There's been many times I've wanted to write a blurb or two about a notable play or player, but can't commit an entire article to it and am unsure if it's worthy of it's own thread. If the hypothetical front-page existed above, I could easily write a blurb and let some other user decide if it's interesting enough to discuss. I can easily make small, bite sized contributions and the community decides if they want to engage in it. And another, 'nother note. You could use the "Around the Web" section for such a Titans Rotoworld news style feed. (assuming the style/format were compatible - I'm ignorant of coding). Graphically it's nice to have a story or image there. You could combine some original content (as it exists now) along with daily links or similar content. That's more of an aesthetic issue though.
