I think they'd like to trade him - but may be keeping him until some other receivers get healthy or some other players show more potential. He could easily get traded after the 2nd pre-season game. reo Posted August 2, 2013 Report Share Posted August 2, 2013 Right now I'd put the WR depth chart as something like this (yes, I know it's more about X, Z, etc than a list): 1: Kenny Britt 2: Kendall Wright 3a: Nate Washington 3b: Justin Hunter 5: Damian Williams 6: Marc Mariani 7: Michael Preston 8: Kevin Walter 9+: Everyone else We'll probably keep 5, maybe 6 WRs. Kenny Britt, Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter are locks and I'd say Damian Williams is pretty close to a lock as well. I don't think he'll raise high enough to get much playing time but I seriously doubt he falls below anyone else either. I think he's got the 4/5th spot on lock down for now. That's 4 WRs so if we keep Nate then anyone else would not just be competing against the rest of the WRs but also players at other positions. He'll need to force the Titans to keep 6 WRs. Mariani would have the best shot at this due to his added STs ability. In the end it comes down to Hunter. I think they'll obviously want to get him as much playing time as they can. If he doesn't show what they're looking for then it's easy. They keep Nate and he plays outside in 3wide as Wright moves in. The interesting scenario comes if Hunter shows enough to get more playing time b/c then Nate drops to 4 and his spot will depend heavily on a few of things. 1: Price tag - How much are they willing to pay a guy to sit the bench. Personally I think this is a minor factor. 2: How badly do they want a vet WR on the roster b/c Britt would suddenly become the most veteran WR if Walter shows nothing. 3: Their attitude toward Damian Williams. How's his upside and how does he now and in the future compare to Nate. Is Nate that much better as a backup? If they end up keeping Nate for whatever reason then it's similar to the above scenario but Damian moves to 5 and Marc has the best shot at pushing the Titans to keep 6 WRs. If they do dump Nate via release or trade then Preston and Walter have a shot as does any possible vet WR via FA (if they want a vet presence) but they have to force to beat out Marc and then Marc is again in the same scenario as above. If Marc wins the 5th spot out right then Preston probably goes to the PS and Walter's spot hinges again on how badly they want a vet presence in the locker room. Also keep in mind that Hunter doesn't have to play all world or even overly consistently to win that spot over Nate. We're not in a position where 3wide has to be our base offense even though ideally we use it a lot. We've got enough potential at TE that if we don't trust Hunter w/ that much playing time then we use 2 TEs more often and limit his chances to fuck up that way.
