Week 3 Titans vs Colts Discussion
IowaOiler replied to AussieTitanFan08's topic in Titans and NFL Talk
If only there was a legit CB there when we picked to overweight DT. One that could do crazy things, like pick-off Mahomes in the SB and return it for a TD...on his birthday. -
God damn I suck at this game.

Week 3 Titans vs Colts Discussion

He's been good at the short over the top throws when those appear to be his first read based on the defense. If those are shut down, it's sack or hero ball...with the occasional aforementioned Ridley crosser or rope to Ayomanor. -
It's two games. That said, my goals for the season (specifically the early portion) was to see development and progression from both Callahan and Ward. Through two games, Ward holds the ball way too long, especially for how shitty his line has played at times. He's shown he's able and willing to throw guys open, so I don't know if the issue is hesitancy after game 1, confidence in the receivers, play-calling, route-running, or what. He does a pretty good job avoiding pressure, but there is very little in the way of timing throws. When he does do it though, it looks beautiful. I wish Helm had been more involved, and I don't know why they stopped on those PA crossers to Ridley since they were very effective. Callahan is harder to evaluate. I thought his play-calling in game 2 was pretty good in the first half, although he looked more conservative than Kirk Ferentz after the turnover. At least try a throw to see if we can get close and potentially score a TD. We aren't going to prevent the Rams from scoring in the second half, so we are going to need the points. If he gets sacked or it goes incomplete, then you can get conservative and play for the FG. I'm not totally out on Callahan yet, but I'm starting to back into the cornfield ala homer style.

Week 2 Titans vs Rams Discussion
IowaOiler replied to AussieTitanFan08's topic in Titans and NFL Talk
Yeah, I think this is the thing that will determine a midseason firing vs waiting until the end and seeing if he can turn the corner. If Ward starts getting hit, he'll be gone and Amy won't care if it's midseason or mid-game. We've got a starting 5 that seemed able to hold their own even against a pretty impressive rush, but with Latham out, Papa Callahan has to prove value. -

Vikings. -
I agree....I just think to be overly conservative all half just to go full run-and-shoot deep in your own territory right before half is a pretty egregious misstep. I liked throwing on first down (as I normally do), but when that was blown up, run the fucking ball and at least make them use their timeouts. Putting Chestnut in may have been Pollard asking for a breather too, so I'm not putting that on BC.
-
The offense was awful, but if the receivers had just caught 2 of the drops, or Cam thrown away 1 of the sacks, or Cally run the ball once before half, or Simmons not been a total retard...things likely end very differently.
-
The good coaches have good QBs...and Cally has that now. He may still turn out to be a bum, but he'll likely get the year to work with Ward and see if they can be a Reid/Mahomes, BB/Brady, Payton/Brees, etc..

This is what I came up with. I obviously have a general tilt against officiating since I 100% believe the league helps certain teams, but there were also some legit penalties that we just gifted them. Brian has to be better generally, as do the receivers and Ridley specifically. My guess is if you were on with Cam today playing Fortnite, and asked him the best receiver in the league, Ridley wouldn't be #1. That said, the game showed me 1 of the two things I was looking for, which is arguably the most important...growth and legit NFL traits by Cam Ward. Brian needs to get better play-calling or he'll be gone before the season is over. The three passes before halftime was Whisenhunt-bad....and jesus fucking christ Jeff, stop being a fucking retard at the most critical moments. Him and Lewan seem similar in that they love to help the team snatch defeat out of the clutches of victory.

What I want to see is a competitive game where we can see BC and Ward progressing. There was no doubt Cally struggled early last year having to call plays and run the game, but I think he got better as the season went a long. Ward has more promise than any young QB we've had since McNair, so seeing him do NFL level shit...like looking guys off, reading defenses, throwing with anticipation, and pushing the ball downfield....would be great for us regardless of the final score. -
I get being a little shocked at the prediction, and I understand TV sells outrage which Stephen A has in abundance....but it's not really THAT crazy. There was another ESPN show that had Dan O basically sit down (they were all standing) on the floor because another 'analyst' had Cam as the best QB in the division by November. I don't want to count our chickens before they hatch, but in the vein of trusting Vegas when it comes to outcomes, I personally have never considered getting NFL Sunday Ticket....but I'm seriously considering it this year. Maybe it's just the excitement of seeing a #1 behind center again, but I'm excited.

Who would be your challengers to this?
IowaOiler replied to NashvilleNinja's topic in Titans and NFL Talk
Matthews should be on there. And I'd put Kittle on there at TE...hell, he's made an ISU QB look decent. I also don't think TO belongs on there. Megatron would be my choice. -
That's fucking gross. Kudos to the dad for restraining himself...never something I've been very good at doing, ever when the numbers aren't in my favor. I went to a Titans/Texans game in Nashville about 10 years ago and took my kids. A large group of Texans fans were staying on our floor in the hotel and were up at like 2-3AM being super loud in the hallway and my kids couldn't get to sleep. I tried calling the front desk to get them to say something but after another hour I finally went out and told them to shut the fuck up. They turned and started walking toward me and asked what I was going to do, to which I replied I'll just call the cops. One of them said something sarcastically like, "oh, such a big strong guy who wants to call the cops." Admittedly it was dumb because there were about 8-10 of them, but I replied back that I didn't need to call the cops to shut them up and started walking down the hallway toward them. Luckily for me, one of them must have been sober because he ushered them all back into a room and told me they'd quite down. Funnily enough, when I turned around my wife had closed the door behind me. That bitch was just going to leave me out there...no wonder the marriage didn't work.

Titans 2025 Training Camp Discussion
IowaOiler replied to AussieTitanFan08's topic in Titans and NFL Talk
Pessimistic bias. I think the current approach is the best approach. Borgonzi seems to be someone that does his research (based on everything we've heard about how in-depth they went scouting Ward). He prioritizes love of the game and dependability. I hope it's a legitimate focal point of his vs. a reaction to the previous two GMs who were lazy and focused on physicial traits over all else. -

Oh yeah? How was Vrabel's defense in Houston with prime JJ Watt? How good was the defense here after Pees left? The rewritting of meatheads coaching by his cock-gobblers might even top that of Fisher's fan club.
