@oldschool @TitanTez @charleytolar Get in here and give us your top 5 guys
-
I’m asking this question for the sake of debate and to narrow comparisons to Robinson for an in depth comparison. My contention is that Robinson is a top 10 drafting GM and likely top 7-8 overall. Here are Mine: Mickey Loomis Kevin Colbert Jason Licht Brett Veach Brandon Beane
-
How so?
-
I agree, so I’ll drop Schneider despite the fanfare and will add Beane due to his recent success. Or maybe Ballard since he is in the division.
-
Yep, and I’m asking because I want to do an in depth comparison.
-
Yeah, for sure. But most league observers consider him to be one of the top GMs based on a long term proven track record. I personally think Wilson covers his deficiencies.
-
I'm curious who people think are demonstrably better drafting GMs than Robinson. Are there 5 we can mostly agree on? My 5 just based on auxiliary general knowledge without intense research would be: Kevin Colbert Jason Licht Brett Veach Mickey Loomis John Schneider I think good arguments could be made for Beane, Spielman, Roseman, Telesco, Lynch, Ballard but that's more controversial and debatable. Legitimately curious which 5 @oldschool thinks are the top 5 *drafting* GMs in the league, as he is one of the posters here with a good general knowledge of the league.
-
The fact is that Robinson is a top tier (top 10) GM in the NFL right now. It's not really debatable and not even worthy of debate, it's immensely self-apparent.
-
Only 8 of the 33 players Robinson has drafted are out of the league. Do you have any concept of how low of a total bust rate that is? Even Brad Seaton and Cole McDonald are rostered. Austin Johnson is a starting DL for the Giants after re-signing there. And you know what's missing in this conversation? Robinson's propensity for finding good UDFAs that stick here or around the league.
-
What am I missing here? What are we comparing the draft classes against? The '95 Bucs class? The '96 Ravens? The '83 Bears?
-
Whether players are still rostered on the drafting team or not is a totally bogus/irrelevant way to judge draft picks. Out of 9 draft picks in 2017, he got 4 legitimate long term starters. That's a very good draft class. Three All Pros in 2016, amazing draft class. In 2018, two starters (one shouldn't be imo) and our top STer. 2019: Simmons, AJB, Nate Davis, Amani Hooker. 4 starters, 3 are Pro Bowl caliber. Yes, 2020 was poor - no one will disagree. So that's 3 excellent draft classes, one mediocre class, and one poor to mediocre one (TBD depending on the contributions of Fulton and Darrynton Evans). What are you looking at here?
-
They really cannot afford to do that imo. I can see defense in the first round, but then you need to go offense with at least 2 if not all 3 of the next 3 picks.
-
So many good picks to choose from! Henry, AJB, Byard... Then there are some really good picks that went elsewhere for financial reasons: Conklin, Corey Davis, Jonnu Smith And how about trades? Tannehill, Murray, Kelly. And his actual poor picks are so few and far between....... Wait...this is kind of starting to paint a picture.....

Tart is stout/squatty and powerful enough to swing it. He's definitely over 300 lbs now. There's definitely a size floor for the position, but it's more about strength, power, ability. My personal preference in an ideal world for a traditional 3-4 is to have the huge 6'2, 340 pound guy there. But in the modern NFL, you need someone who can provide a little rush here and there too.
-
I can't imagine them adding enough firepower in 2022 to pass that SCOTUS bill. Even with a 4 or 5 seat majority, I don't think they could swing it in the Senate, and they'd need a huge House Majority to manage it. And I don't know that Biden wouldn't just veto it.
-
They should. I'd love to see him continuing to develop into a starter.
-
The thing is that Onwuzurike really doesn't have the profile to play NT, imo. But who knows.
-
Simmons could easily play NT, but it could be a waste of his talent. Although, he's getting double teamed constantly anyway and having to two gap quite a bit, so it wouldn't be a ton different in terms of production. He's got a similar strength profile and build to Suh, who plays a lot of 1 tech shade and 4T.
-
There was a report previously (can't remember from who) that some teams view Barmore as a top 15 talent. And I'd agree, but Barmore is universally ranked as the number 1 DL in the draft. I still believe he'd prefer to go corner.
-
I can see Barmore, but not Onwuzurike at 22.
-
-
I'd trade up to a 5th rounder for him probably, really liked him coming out.
-
7th sounds about right for Robinson, but Ballard being ranked number 1 is just plain stupid. Jerry Jones is way too high, Howie Roseman is way too low.
