reo
Just speaking hypothetically. If the corner and defensive end positions are considered weaknesses then there's plenty of talent / opportunity in the draft to address it. They've already said adding a pass rusher is not a priority. I think they'd consider making an exception if Mingo fell, just as they would've if Dumervil wanted to come here but I don't think it's an area they're actively looking to improve on... same goes for corner imo. My point isn't that they are weaknesses, but I'm addressing Oldschool's concern over those two respective roles/positions. Whatever roles that are unfulfilled can be addressed through the draft at this point, whatever they may be.

This team is not going to be good next year. Edited March 21, 2013 by oldschool
Pragidealist
Free agency and the draft go hand in hand. If the Titans draft Barkevious Mingo in the first round and someone like Johnthan Banks in the second round then it would greatly complement what they've done so far. Still a lot of veterans left in free agency too. Not really. They are still going to blitz and take chances. This defense is not going to shut anyone out or keep the score in single digits. Its not designed to. The offense is going to have to score consistently. reo
Cyrus
Right. Because we can totally count on rookies starting and being productive from day one. This team is not going to be good next year. You can generally count on the 10th overall pick to be a contributor. The 40th overall pick should be a capable starter. They're still not done in free agency yet either.
Pragidealist
No pass rush and the signing of in the box Safeties doesn't really address this team's biggest weakness. Pass defense. I am sure there will be a pass rush... through the LB and blitzing. Its just going to be boom or bust. I am sure it will create turnovers. Its also going to lead to some big plays. If the offense doesn't add anyone, its going to have to be as good as when we had Haynesworth.... There is no haynesworth level talent at 10.

Pragidealist
This is an overly optimistic point of view. I'm generally optimistic and I am concerned. If they don't do something to generate a more dynamic and consistent offense, then next year is going to lead to a top 10 pick.
JLocker10
Right. Because we can totally count on rookies starting and being productive from day one. This team is not going to be good next year. so who would you've signed in FA then?
Cyrus
I don't believe I've made the point that this team is going to be outstanding on defense. I'm confused as to why I'm being corralled into that view. However, the Titans can address those positions/roles in the draft. We'll see how well it turns out, but there's only so much this team can do in one offseason. cenj
WG53
Meaning all three safeties are on the field at the same time and two have the option to blitz? (as well as 2 of the LBs.) Ruby package is just a 3-2-6 dime defense with 3 safeties instead of 4 corners.
oldschool
so who would you've signed in FA then? You are missing my point. I'm not advocating they blow stupid money in FA. Don't sell me on the plan to address a terrible pass rush is for them to hope a difference maker at DE is there in the first. They are a building a team around a power rush offense that lacks deep threats. That is being paired with a blitzing defense that lacks a pass rush and is weak in coverage. The two systems do not match and reinforces the idea this team is run by idiots.
