Ya,i was a prettybig defender of his as well, pointing to his ability to do a bit of everything makes up for the fact he was mostly just a finisher in the pass rush game.

No1 hits on every move, this missed on this one, live with it. He was seemingly on the down turn, was going to need new money soon, didnt fit the type of edge they wanted. Lots of reasons to move on.

Watching a bit of the Patriots this season it seems Vrabel is letting Landry just pin his ears back a bit more off the EDGE and not worry about his run responsibilities as much as he did for a large portion of his tenure at Titans.

Ya, that was brought up alot around here, i had the same argument about his ability to play 90% of downs, set an edge and cover at a B-B+ level was worth not cutting back on his snaps for pressure.

Idk if I was right, but the use him less crowd were right it helped his pass rush production.

While we are on the pass rush it won't help with Arden Key out for a while with that quad strain but this coaching staff must be fast approaching the point in time where they need to accept reality on Femi Oladejo and that he is going to be a bigger project than they had hoped for.

Not sure how much longer they can afford to have Oladejo out there for 50-70% of snaps doing basically nothing.

I was Landry's biggest supporter here but his pass rush win rate last season was atrocious there was no way they were keeping him the way he was playing at the end of last year.

If people want to be critical of the move be critical of their choice of replacement for Landry.

You don't get rid of someone without the proven replacement in place or a great plan.

He played a crazy amount of snaps and had the most sacks on the team.  His PRWR sucked because he was tired as fuck. Now our edge guys cant set the edge, cant play pass D, and their PRWR is just as bad if not worse... and they arent getting sacks.  Landry was the perfect candidate to build depth along side of rather than dump. Resting him and bringing in more rushers allows you to up his PRWR.

Its simple math. We didnt need to get rid of him.. we didnt need to save money... we didnt spend the money we saved.. and we have a giant cap space with zero pass rushers.

IT was a poor decision based on the perpetual cheapass Titans idea that our homegrown players "arent worth it" compared to the rest of the league. - then we dont replace them and we are fucked.

Replacing guys early with bad talent is a giant reason why we are in this shitty spot.

Where Landry was at the end of last season it was the right move for this new regime who are looking for a completely different body type.

Borgonzi has made it very clear he wants his starting EDGE players to be big physical guys that have power as their #1 attribute like it or not that is simply not Landry.

Landry had more sacks in his first 5 games last year (4) than he has this year (3.5) and he hasn't gotten a sack since week 2, for those who care about simple stats. He only got 5 more sacks in 12 games the rest of last year.

I guess it's always possible he could have a 2 or 3 sack game to pump up his stats.

There's clearly a major issue either in the FO or coaching staff.  Landry/Jones are exhibit Z of players leaving and performing substantially better elsewhere and the FO's replacement of choice looking substantially worse than before they arrived.  We're never going to be able to rebuild if the team continues to get worse with the more changes that they make.

Different Front Office for Ernest Jones and if the decision had been made they were not going to pay him the right move was absolutely made to trade him as that pick turned into Gunnar Helm.

I get the rationale from them. But I dont agree with it nor think it was necessary.

I also think we'd be a better team this year and next year (Femi learning from landry), even if Landry was just here this season. A good vet leader is good for the transition. He was also a plus on everything outside of just the pass rush.

No use crying over spilled milk but there was a time when the titans didn't let players go and they almost never produced elsewhere. We were better teams back then.
