2ToneTerror
It’s almost like Aussie hated the Sweat pick to begin with and it will forever color his analysis of him…the way Oman will forever be colored on his Levis analysis…. Nah nah…that’s not it…

Carrying around 340 lbs instead of 375 would increase his speed, power, and stamina with only a small decrease in top end force.. There are naturally variations in performance , based on health, your opponent, environment, and your own conditioning.. Training and shape minimizes some of that variability. This invites the question....how effective will Sweat be by late November or so when he hits the provibial rookie wall?

oldschool
Personally if I had to choose, I'm taking the guy who shows out in practice every day and doesn't show much in a preseason game vs a guy who doesn't show out in practice but plays well in a preseason game, in order of importance for camp/preseason reps 1. joint practices 2. practice/camp 3. preseason games

I didn’t like the pick because he has weight issues, conditioning issues, character issues, and frankly I think his weight was his asset as a bully in college football and will be a detriment in the NFL. I think he needs to get his strength up and his weight down. I also think we had a greater need at OL. All those things are still true and it shows. Commenting what you are witnessing shouldn’t be this controversial.

He only really moved his man like twice that I saw. He actually gave ground at the LOS more than expected. He didn't play well. Yes he was double teamed a lot but he also didn't do much against those double teams where the standard is to at least hold your ground; the 9ers OL moved him pretty easily. Don't get caught in the trap of seeing what you want to see with Sweat. I saw a rookie in his first preseason game...

It was a small sample size in the first preseason game. If he continues to perform poorly throughout the preseason, then yeah, it’s time to get worried. I'm good with that and I don't expect people to be concerned. What I was reacting to was the seeming denial that the guy was completely ineffective which was very clear. Just admit he was a non-factor but that you're not worried about him going forward. That's a fine opinion. Pretending he was anything other than underwhelming however is not aligned with reality. But the comparison Aussie made of we could of got thay from a late round/undrafted guy was good. The splashiest play he had was the hands up play which was a staple of his in college. But i dont think any of us want to put cash on him batting 10+ balls.

I didn't think he was underwhelming or that he played bad. I think he showed some instincts and took on double teams.
