I don't have to make excuses, he was hired as a HC immediatley following that season as DC, which btw he was offered a job as by the 49ers in 2016 but chose to stay with Houston. Maybe he conned them too into believing he knows how to run a defense.
OILERMAN
It is interesting that way more players developed under Mularkey than Vrabel.

Vrabel has developed plenty of players - AJB, Henry, Long, Simmons, Tart, Brewer, Hooker, NWI, Gibbens, Landry, Jonnu Smith, MyCole Pruitt, Nate Davis, DeMarcus Walker, on and on. Someone mentioned Henry under Mularkey but he didn’t even really take off until after Vrabel got here. Jonnu Smith really was not very good his first two years either - he seemed well on his way to getting cut in year 2 with how many balls he was regularly dropping. This list is laughable And would you like to compare AJ Brown under Vrabel vs a real offensive staff, the Eagles? Vrabel probably got the least out of Brown possible

Vrabel probably got the least out of Brown possible I'm not going to get into the who he did and who he didn't coach up debate, however... I don't think AJ is a good example. Has he really gotten better or has his usage gone up and now has a real target opposite him so they can't double him every play? Basically, is lack of fully utilizing a player the same as not developing them?

What exactly do you think here? Mularkey > Vrabel?
Bongo59
If I am being honest I am upset with Vrabel about a lot of things but most of the errors have been on the GM side of the equation. I am not a fan of RC reign so far. I think the guy AZ hired from us did more with even less and he is set up well for the next few drafts to rebuild AZ. I am not confident in RC ability to do it. BudsOilers
Vrabel has minimal interaction with the WR's and giving him credit for AJB's on field development is pretty hysterical. He was a top WR talent from day one. Where he does get credit is in managing the player - he knew how to motivate him and deal with his occasional erratic temperament. Similarly, giving him credit for Henry is stupid too. It took Eddie George telling him to run hard inside and not try to bounce everything outside when he was on the verge of getting traded/benched for him to turn it around. Ossenfort stepped into the Cardinal job similarly to early in J-Rob's tenure with the Titans when he could afford to spin off the 1-1 pick because he thought he had his QB.
