If you are making the point that people from all walks of life can/are be racist and prejudice...then I agree. Southerners were not and are not the only racists. But yes, the parties did split along their lines by how they reacted to the Civil rights act.

This is not accurate. Norman Podhoretz, Jeane Kirkpatrick, Irving Kristol and others started the neoconservative movement and were staunch supporters of civil rights. Barry Goldwater even opposed civil rights but not due to racism but instead because he didn’t believe the government had the right to impose behavior on businesses. He fought to desegregate schools in Arizona. I could go on and on but it feels as if anything I said here would simply fall on deaf ears.

Pure nonsense.  Byrd, Gore and Fulbright were liberal Democrats to name a few.   In fact the more Republican the South has become, the less racist.

“Libertarian”   LOL you fucking suckers

They're 100% centrists at the least by international standards

2 of the 3 are also Jewish. And not surprisingly, Jews tend to be a lot more sensitive to the abuse of minorities. Especially only 20 years after the Holocaust…

None of that changes to fact that liberals and conservatives were clearly divided on the civil rights movement.

Me too. Avoided it (based on tests, at least) until this past week.

I haven’t tested positive yet but I was exposed a few days ago. Still waiting to see if I get to go to Christmas dinner…

Ironically the 1st time I got it was last year at Christmas.

Man, I feel for you.  I'm not sure that I've ever had covid.  If I have, it was sometime late 2019, when my wife contracted some mystery sickness that no one could identify.  I felt somewhat sick but attributed it to sympathy sickness.  Anyway, I started fighting what I think is the flu Tuesday and today, just had to power through what's left of it to start smoking gift hams, grilling a pecan pie and preparing to grill two turkeys tomorrow.  I'll be grilling the turkeys because my smoker died today, just as the smoke got going good with the hams.  Had to finish them up in the oven.  What a bummer.

Anyway, hope you get over it in time to enjoy your holiday, you Godless heathen.

It was largely a non-issue for me last year. Minor sinus issues and I lost my sense of smell and taste for 3 days and that was it. But it can be so bad for tons of people even when it isn’t life threatening.

Yea, I got it two years ago. Kicked my butt for a few days and then got over it.  Still… totally agree, it’s a terrible sickness and you just don’t know how it’s gonna affect you, even if you’re young.

Funny enough, the only reason I suspect I had covid as described earlier is, my tolerance for capsaicin went out the roof somewhere after this time.  Otherwise, I can tell no difference in taste or smell.  We eat spicy everything so it could be coincidence?
