Where do the Titans rank?

It's pretty tough to rank the Titans with all the changes based on what we know right now.  Spears could have a huge impact or very little.  Hopkins could be a crucial piece we were missing or just a cog in a mediocre passing game.  Kelly could be the real deal or another disappointment.  The Oline could be much better in pass protection or a complete disaster.  We simply don't know at this time.  If everything comes together, the Titans could be top 5; if everything falls apart, they could be around 20-25.  They'll likely be somewhere in the middle of that, bolstered by the fact they still play in one of the weaker divisions in football.

Ranking us 9 after the season we had last year and with the questions and massive changes we have on the offensive line is just pure fan homerism

Really? They were clearly the best in the AFC South when Tannehill was healthy, even with shit WRs.

I’d put titans around 15 or worse with this OL….

I think that's fair.  Obviously I think the coaching is problematic, but I'm in my month or so of optimism that grips me every offseason, so maybe we'll realize the early down splits were retarded and actually try to resemble a 21st century offense.

As far as the AFC South, I think each team will be better than last year, albeit not real contenders.  The Jags vs. Titans is interesting because they have far better coaching (IMO) but we have a far better roster.  I'm actually interested to see how Pederson attacks our defense.  We should be able to get pressure with 4, but they have Lawrence so I think I would move the pocket and run more delayed handoffs to take advantage of our aggressiveness.

I think 9 is about right for the Titans and there are still questions to be answered, as in, how will the Oline perform, but overall I'm optimistic about there being a pretty good chance to win the division and make the playoffs. There is a ton of talent on this team.

It's very well documented how I, others, the eye test, and even advanced stats suggested that the first half of last season was really a mirage. I'm pretty sure a few others and myself correctly predicted a collapse in the 2nd half of the season. And that's before Tannehill went down.

Too much banks on our offensive line quickly gelling and showing they are a decent group for anyone to be confident. I think defense will keep most games close (probably a top 8 unit-- and despite not having an ELITE edge or shutdown corner) but the offense will be too inconsistent.

The defense was dominant until Simmons was hobbled and Autrey was banged up. What they did to the Chiefs offense wasn't a mirage.

I expect the Rams to be one of the worst teams in the league. Kupp already banged up. Donald coming off the worst season of his career. Age (32) starting to be a factor for him? And Stafford is a huge ?. On top of being extremely thin I don't like how it's looking for the Rams/

There's really only about 5 teams (KC, CIN, BUF, PHI, SF) that I have a lot of confidence in. After that it's a lot of what ifs for the rest of the league. I feel like 6-15 is fairly interchangeable. I'd say the Titans are around 15 right now with the upside of 6-10 depending on how things break.

So I put together something of a power poll. Basically ranking out the playoff contenders. I came up with 23 teams that I thought could realistically make the playoffs. I put the Titans as 9th best.

Just curious how other people see things heading into the season.

  1. Chiefs
  2. Bengals
  3. Eagles
  4. 49ers
  5. Bills
  6. Cowboys
  7. Jets
  8. Dolphins
  9. Titans
  10. Ravens
  11. Chargers
  12. Lions
  13. Vikings
  14. Browns
  15. Jaguars
  16. Saints
  17. Rams
  18. Seahawks
  19. Broncos
  20. Giants
  21. Falcons
  22. Packers
  23. Steelers

Here is a different opinion, slightly.

#11 Jaguars

#26 Titans

Probably a computer glitch.

The Titans odds to win the Super Bowl are the 4th worst in the league.  Every single power rating I've seen has the Titans as a bottom 6 or 7 team.  There's clearly a difference between how the team is viewed on this board versus how they're viewed nationally.  Hopefully this board wins out.

What would this thread be without another teams fan opinion?

Last year, the Jag's beat the Cowboys, the Ravens, and the Chargers (TWICE). I also think we are just flat out better than the BIlls.

We will be a better team this year due to the following reason:

1. Ridley

2. Year two of Pederson's system expect better execution at all levels, especially QB.

3. Better depth at running back, tight end, wide receiver, and the offensive line.

4. Second year leap for our young defensive players.

My unbiased vote is the Jags are number 7. 😁

You guys will be better than most expect. I put you at around 12 due to your limitations on offense. Your D will be kick ass.
