Unfortunately, the Titans are going to lose some talented guys no matter what they do. They don't have enough roster spots to protect everyone. I agree though, if you can hide him and stash him, do it.
IowaOiler
Preseason is pretty pointless unless you're interested in the fringe roster-battles. That said, if you struggle to read a generic defense against backups, to the point you get removed because you're tucking and running too much, that's not a good sign that when a legit NFL defense is game planning and scheming, you're going to be very successful. Let the rookie get as much game experience as possible so that he can grow as fast as possible, be more properly evaluated, and be better prepared to help the team if something were to happen to RT. There's no point in having Woodside take any snaps. He sucks and obviously isn't part of any long term plan. It's funny, I came away with the exact opposite impression. We know Willis can run. He doesn't need game reps just to scramble. He had the one deep ball to McMath, but that was it. Even if Woodside sucks, he'll at least throw the ball and give you half a chance to evaluate the receivers. The whole preseason can't be just about Malik. If he plays, we're fucked, so you might as well put some focus on what's going to help you this season. To me, the best way to do that is have Woodside get snaps with the "ones" to get some passes up to some guys who will at least make the roster, then let Willis have the rest. Nothing Willis showed translates to winning ball this year, and the next game should be tailored more to that. Give Willis the entire 3rd game if you want, but I'd like to see Woodside with the ones, because that's what it's going to be should Tanny miss some snaps. They'll do plenty of evalulating in the joint practices; Willis needs as many reps as he can get. Besides, wouldn't be surprised in the least if they flipped the script and put Woodside in first ,next psg and give Willis clean up duty; that would set up giving Willis another start and reps in psg 3 when the roster has pretty much been set. He has so many flaws it will be years before he might even be a backup. I was speaking more to the no team will snap him up part. I have no idea how he will end up, he definitely has more upside than mariota but he is definitely a project which almost all of us agree on. But to keep pushing this we can cut him and no1 will care crap is beyond stupid.

From a team point of view I think what you said makes a lot of sense. How much would snaps in a preseason against vanilla defenses with second string players develop Malik? IowaOiler
Mariota was bad, but to say Willis has more upside seems pretty insane. Willis is awful, and with the offensive morons we have running the shit show, he's not going to get much better. Shocker to see an offensive player under Vrabel not take him seriously when he asks them to throw the ball.

Spin artist. If you put him on the PS he is gone. Even if in some crazy fantasy world he makes it to the practice squad any team can sign him away all year. The protection for the PS only works from Tuesday to GameDay. If they put him on it he is gone period.

I agree Woodside should get plenty of opportunities with the 1's since he's less likely to tuck and run and will give the receivers a chance to show some stuff. On the other hand, if I'm trying to win one game, I'd probably rather have Willis run 15 times, spam RPO's with Henry all game, and play field position than let Woodside air it out 35 times. pat
Willis needs to beat out Logan Woodside to be on this team. Points wise, he did that in the first preseason game. But he’s still gotta throw the ball. I think there’s a 30-50% chance Willis gets cut. He’s getting the opportunity but also he needs to perform. Running around with his head down against base defenses isn’t all that impressive.

OILERMAN
Willis isn't getting cut no matter how bad he is. Next year in training camp people can start talking about whether he's a real starting prospect or possibly fighting for a roster spot.
