What we do know is that it was a predefined read play and Tannehill went to where the play was designed to go. There is a good chance that there wasn't a second read and Tannehill did exactly what he was supposed to do. There's also a pretty good chance that there was an outlet read and he missed the safety. My point is that we simply don't know but I'm willing to give Tannehill the benefit of the doubt and apparently others are not. The ones speaking in absolutes are morons and talking out of their ass. Period. Well if the play design precludes reading the single player covering the receiver then Tannehill and the WR should be able to figure it out. "Throw away from the coverage" is not complicated. Tannehill deserves some amount of blame but it was a pretty bang bang play and it's more than likely that was the read. I'm sure they had some reasons to believe the play would be open but the Bengals defensive coaches and players get paid money too and they study tendencies too! Tactics often boil down to rock paper scissors, but the hard part is seeing what your opponent is throwing and then adjusting. The later is what makes for elite athleticism and body control. It was very obviously the right read because the defender himself knew that this is where defense dictated the ball should go. If Bates isn't a really smart player, that pass is likely completed and we're not having this conversation. Very different plays but it reminds me a bit of that comeback that Tracy Porter jumped vs Manning and the Colts in the Superbowl they won. Just a great individual play by a good defender that the offense couldn't do much about.

The argument you tards used in regards to play action was that Henry's presence made it work better while the opposite side of the argument was saying that defenders were reading their keys & formations and reacting to that. What cosell saying is backing up that formations and defenders keys are the reason for that success not your argument.
Number9
This Tannehill thing is a lot of bullshit. Just another silly board fight that needs to end. He's going to be the QB. He took 99% of the snaps for a 12-5 team. His team was constantly depleted by injury. He's a Top 10 QB. What 10 NFL QBs would have won more games with what the 2021 Titans had? He an excellent fit for our scheme. He will do what the coaches ask him to do. 2019 Tannehill 2020 Tannehill 2021 tannehill This is Marcus Mariota's team. The team was built around what they thought he would be able to do. Once the coaches figured out Derrick Henry wasn't Eddie George and started designing plays to use his strentghs the teams was ready. The QB wasn't. It's the NFL. Nobody is going to give you a QB so you can become a dominant team. JRob and Vrabel saw-Ryan Tannehill. His film showed he could run our offense. They got him for a pick and the Dolphins paid his salary. People forget what actually happened. They put Tannehill in a scheme that fit him excellently. It's about way more than throwing an interception in one playoff game. It's the whole team. It's the whole organization. That's why you saw JRob crying over losing that game. He doesn't blame it all on Tannehill. That's foolish. I was a mad fool right after the game. Time to let that shit go. Clue. Henry was hurt. RT had one(1) legit playmaker to target. Nine attempts. Five catches for 142yd. Get off the playa hater bus. Preseason starts soon. You know what that means. PSG#3® The Kool Aid. Number9's Free Betting Advice.* Number9's praise Henry Thread(s). So again, you interpret him the wrong way. Why do you think we can even run run action more than most of the league? Yes, you can get away with it with backups etc. once in a while, but it's over time lacking his ability changed out effectiveness.

I've listened to him go over this on the radio for oh I don't know a year now at a minimum. He's not agreeing with you. If anybody's misinterpreting anything it's you and the people using your argument. You can quadruple down on it all you want but you've been wrong on this ever since you started posting this argument. You clearly don't know what you are talking about. And it's as clear as day you don't even know what he means by run action.

I know exactly what it means ... he explained it and I quoted it verbatim. 3. Yes we can effectively do this without Henry in the game, but that's like saying you can force double teams without a star wide receiver. Yes, you can get away with it but over time defenses won't treat the plays the same way without the star involved. 4. At one point Cossell says teams key on this because they're being coached to focus on this. Why do you think this is?

One could argue that who the back is, is actually one of the least important factors in run action. Having a great running back does not in and of itself create the threat to run on any given down. You threaten the run by being in a formation and personnel grouping that indicates to the defense that a run is likely. For example, you can have prime Ladanian Tomlinson out there but if you're in 10 personnel and it's 3rd and 10, play action is useless since no one thinks you might actually run. The threat isn't generated by how well you'll actually run but rather buy the fact that you might run at all if that makes sense.

Like in theory teams could double team any receiver they wish but how are you "forcing" that to happen? I can't really think of a schematic way to do that. Last minute roster changes, also it happens all the time when playcalls confuse defenders and there's miscommunication. It's possible. However, trickery without talent only last for so long. That's my point. Run action works because coaches want to stop Henry, and we run effectively with him. Players aren't given these keys unless there are certain plays and players you want to key on.
