Did you guys hear the CIA intercepted calls that Ukraine was going to mount a huge drone attack on Moscow and the US intervened? Do you think there's any validity to it?

Haven't heard about it but I've been busy the past few days. I'm skeptical.

imo that reeks of a Russian attempt to scare it's people into being more against Ukraine and supportive of Russia's war... make their people feel threatened. Ukraine hasn't really shown any real interest in hitting civilian areas. Are there enough military targets in Moscow that they'd want to target in a huge drone attack? I don't know enough about their military structure and locations. On top of that I don't think the CIA would need to intercept any calls for the US to find out Ukraine was planning that. I'd think US and Ukraine would just talk about it directly as they have pretty much everything else as a requirement for all the aid the US is giving.

Tons of military/government/intelligence&security buildings to target in Moscow, and those kinds of targets would be totally legitimate.

i think this is in part a diversion to try and get Russia to pull troops from Zaporizhzhia where their counter attack will most likely be.

I had similar thoughts on the matter, but there's so much disinformation it's impossible to know the extent of truth about these types of things. That's why I asked you guys if you'd heard anything.

In my mind it's likely that Ukraine has plans to attack Moscow in an if-when type scenario. I have zero idea what that would be or look like, but I'm sure it's been proposed, studied, and there are contingencies for it. It wouldn't make strategic sense to hit Moscow right before a counter attack. You would be circling the wagons for the Russians.

That's kind of what I'd think. Ukraine has shown the ability and willingness to attack inside Russia in the past but they've mostly been military bases and installations. I'm not sure there are enough military targets in Moscow to make the blow back worth it.

Hit the Kremlin itself with a couple of kamikaze drones, just to prove a point. Like the Doolittle raid hitting Tokyo. Not a full on assault, just a “proof of concept” attack.

“All's fair in love and war.”

That said, don’t prompt Russia into a nuclear response. That’s the big concern if you are Ukraine.

I dunno. I think the "rally around the flag" repercussions might be more costly than the benefit. They've already shown iirc that they could probably get some drones to Moscow if they wanted.

Well I’d avoid hitting civilian targets, but I think the Kremlin is fair game

It's definitely fair game. I'm not saying that and of course only military targets.... but in any war there's a certain degree of "rally around the flag" response from civilians and i think we'd see more of that if they attacked Moscow directly.

but maybe i'm wrong and just being contrary.

You aren't. The Russian soldiers are weary and have been thoroughly defeated when viewing the two armies capabilities and man power. Attacking their Capitol would definitely have a huge effect on the citizenry and soldiers.

In many cases I’d agree with you. If Ukraine directly attacked Russian civilians then certainly.

But I think if Ukraine were to attack Russia in a way that doesn’t hurt civilians then it won’t matter to them. Attacking 2 military airbases on Russian soil didn’t change things.

Moscow is a different ballgame.

Destroying the Kremlin (which is not feasible anyway) might, but causing fairly minor damage to prove a point probably won’t turn Russian civilians into big war supporters. In fact, if civilians see that they are vulnerable inside Russia that may well become even more anti-war.
