They're losing in the overall objective to seize all of Ukraine and remove their democratic government. They're also losing in retaining captured territory in the South where a successful Ukrainian counteroffensive continues. Russia is winning the strategic battle in the Donbas though, as they already controlled large swaths of the Donbas prior to Feb'22, as well as of course Crimea. And they've continued to make slow gains in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions in the East. If they were to capture all of Donbas in its entirety, that would net Russia somewhere around 15-20% of Ukrainian territory with Ukraine still in control of the vast majority.
