I get your argument about not spending a 1st on a WR but a Day 2 pick will definitely be spent on one. As I pointed out in another thread, only Diggs and Hill have really come out of Day 3 in recent history and gone on to be a top WR. You do have invest in the position. If you aren’t going to pay then you need to draft them.

Goddamn....Diggs and T.Hill in the 5th.

that’s value.

I want a slot receiver who can threaten the seam of the defense.  That will give Henry move to operate.  Don’t think we can wrong either way with the right players.

I've wanted to see this for a while.

We failed last year because we couldn't cover and couldn't sack the QB. Losing Jonnu and Davis doesn't set us back that far. Like I've said before, we can find Davis level talent in later rounds. When an offense call walk down the field on every possession and literally convert every 3rd down, you ain't winning shit in the playoffs.

I agree.  You still have to have offense to walk down the field.  We have less WR’s than any other position.   JRob usually has an obvious position of need going into the draft and that need this year is WR.  They will draft a WR early.  And you need WRs to get open down the field to compete.  You need talented people at every position.  You are not going to consistently win without playmakers at receiver.  The best players are usually at the top of the draft.

Stats would disagree here: https://www.nfl.com/stats/player-stats/category/receiving/2020/reg/all/receivingyards/desc

?.  Stats prove the opposite of your argument.  There are only 4 people on that list that was drafted after the 4th round.  15 are drafted in rounds 1 and 2.  You don’t consider the outlier the rule.  What you are essentially saying because of Brady, Wilson, Prescott and Cousins, you shouldn’t draft QB’s in Rounds 1 and 2.  The best players are in the top of the draft for every position and the job of a GM is to get the very best players.  It’s simple.

Issue is we aren't and hopefully won't be drafting at the very top of the draft so you have to asses once the very elite are gone at any position what the drop off is in the next tier between rounds; also factoring in if an elite player falls to the lower part of round 1, you need to grab them regardless of need at positions.

Exactly. What you must do, is find the best tier 2 players that fall. Everybody wants Chase Young but nobody wants to go 3-13 to get him.

Yall crazy af for wanting a receiver in the first 2 rounds. Hell I don't want one in the first 3....MAYBE at pick 100.

WR is consistently becoming a deep position in every draft simply because of supply/demand and the evolution of the college game along with the NFL's adoption of college offense concepts.  That's how a guys like AJ Brown, DK Metcalf, Terry McLaurin, and Stephon Diggs are available on day 2.

That said, picking at 22 forces you to pick the BPA.  If a guy you have rated as elite drops for some reason (and the run of over drafting QB's will help that), you pull the trigger whether it's a WR, CB, OL, etc.

Imagine if we signed Villanueva for RT. Just imagine. That would completely free us up in the draft for BPA and we'd probably have the #1 OLine in the league.

S Malik Hooker...what a shame for that guy. I really liked him coming out, but he's been absolutely devastated by injuries. It's hard to take a risk on someone who's been knocked out all 4 years, but he could be gem if a good team brings him in and he manages to stay healthy all year. Only 25 and showed playmaking skills when healthy.

I doubt it. I just think the Steelers developed him and now he wants a payday. Typical Steelers. They turn nobodys into pro bowlers and then let em walk.
