What's that going to do to their economy? I am all for moving to renewable energy. But renewable technology is not at a place that it can replace oil and gas right now. I hope it does someday. Thats what the free market is for. When renewables are better and more cost effective, they will naturally dry up the oil and gas industry. Until then, this is stupidity and the government trying to pick winners and losers. How much of this oil was going to be refined into gas for the US market? If it were only for the US they could send it through the already existing pipeline to the refinery in Illinois... They just want to refine it and sell it overseas. The two spills from the Keystone pipelines dumped a combined 12,000 barrels of oil in the Dakotas even as operator TC Energy was planning to expand that pipeline with its proposed Keystone XL project, which would have tripled the amount of crude the pipeline system would carry from Canada into the United States. Biden revoked the permit necessary to allow Keystone XL to cross the U.S.-Canada border, essentially killing the project in a bid to demonstrate his climate bona fides. TC Energy is now in court seeking $15 billion from the U.S. government for the cancellation. Despite the quick action on Keystone, environmental justice advocates have criticized the Biden administration for failing to take similarly decisive action to shut down other Canada-U.S. pipelines, such as the Line 3 pipeline in Minnesota.
