I think there's a lot better use for 45 billion than buying Twitter, which has only been profitable 2 of their 12 years of existence. They were not profitable in 2020 or 2021 either so it's not like they're trending in the right direction.

I think the idea is he can spend all this money, make Twitter profitable, and then the value of Twitter goes up and he has made billions more.

Now, whether he can monetize Twitter in such a way that it doesn’t drive away users is the issue.

When it's not *all* of your own money being used... the price is irrelevant compared to future profit forecasts.

Remember... we're a midterm election year and staring down 2024.

Financiers who think Musk is a genius are happy to let him try to make Twitter profitable. It makes them money if he can. It’s not directly political to them, they only care about the money.

As for the politics of it all, it certainly skews towards Republicans and their “free speech” angle. But I don’t think that’s the driving force behind this. Musk just has a lot of money and wants to make more.

Yeah, sure. And Trump ran in 2016 just to start a TV network.

@luvyablue256 stop embarrassing yourself and pushing stupid left wing conspiracies. Musk is buying twitter because he wants to and has the backing to do so. There isn't some master plot here. Sure Musk has played the free speech card but its not due to ideology, its due to dollar signs.

They were on track to meet their 2023 financial targets from what I read this morning but admittedly have not followed Twitter financials closely enough the past few years to have an informed opinion on the matter.

A market manipulator like Musk with a platform like Twitter to even further amplify his manipulations. Yuck.

This is hardly about free speech or whatever he’s saying, and hardly about turning Twitter into a great business. It’s all about making insane money off of occasional stupid “Dogecoin to the moon” style nonsense tweets that causes everyone to drive up the price on things he wants so that he can sell at inflated value, or to drive down the value of select things…any additional money from Twitter revenue itself is just a plus on the side.

Thats my tinfoil conspiracy.

Musk buying Twitter to "make money" confirms the theory that mainstream media has a right wing bias.  Depending on who's funding this acquisition, this gets a lot creepier.  Saudi Arabia funded control of Twitter, for example, is pretty disturbing.

I think for Musk at this point it is more about influence and power than just money in a basic sense.

Certainly finding out how it’s being funded will be if interest. But I doubt it will be quite so overly slimy as taking Saudi money.

He isn’t Jared Kushner after all…

Correct. He's a serial tweeter who wants to make money off Twitter. The free speech crab is clickbait and both sides are falling for it.

Oh, I think influence and power are part of it. But that comes with growing up rich and being the richest person on earth.

I mean the fucker bills himself as a Tesla “founder” even though he bought the company. He calls a guy trying to rescue kids trapped in a cave a “pedo”. He lies all the time and says stupid shit routinely. He gets away with his bullshit because he’s rich.

But I think it’s more about making money than politics.
