JROBS best moves as GM

code

Recommended Posts

Stumbled into this thought over the weekend when I was rightly called out for overstating the value of Dennis Kelly in the pantheon of good moves that JRO has made.

So for the sake of a good argument, here is my take on the best and worst of JROB. Feel free to disagree.

Best Draft Choices

#1. Derrick Henry, 2nd round, 2016

#2. AJ Brown, 2nd round, 2019

#3. Nate Davis, 3rd round 2019

#4. Jeffrey Simmons, 1st round 2019

#5. Kevin Byard, 3rd round, 2016

HONORABLE MENTION

#6. Jayon Brown, 5th round, 2017

#7. Jonnu Smith, 3rd round, 2017

Worst Draft Choices

#1. Isiaih Wilson, 1st round, 2020

#2. Kevin Dodd, 2nd round, 2016

#3. Ty Taylor, 3rd round, 2017

Best Free Agent Signings

#1. Ryan Tannehill, 2019

#2. Derrick Henry, 2020

#3. Ben Jones, 2016

#4. Roger Saffold, 2019

#5. Logan Ryan, 2015

HONORABLE MENTION

#6. Kenny Vacarro

Worst Free Agent Signings

#1. Vic Beasley, 2020

#2. Cameron Wake, 2019

#3. Josh Kline, 2017

#4. Dion Lewis, 2017

You could argue these either way

#1. Jadaveon Clowney

#2. Malcolm Butler

Best Trade

#1. Dennis Kelly for Dorial Beckham Green

Worst Trade

#1. Jurrell Casey for a bag of kibble.

We traded for Tannehill. Would say that is probably the best trade.

Also the DeMarco Murray trade cost us nothing and he was big in helping flip the culture.

Those were his top two trades.

How is Derrick Henry on there as a "signing" (assuming this means re-signing in this case), but Taylor Lewan isn't.

Trading for Tannehill obviously is his single best move ever, but DeMarco Murray was a great trade for that scheme and making it work also.

Jonathan Cyprien and Sylvester Williams were also poor signings, and an argument could be made for Rishard Matthews either way.

Vaccaro is over-rated and doesn't belong on the best signings list. He was a decent signing, but not a top one.

His worst trade was probably Reggie Gilbert or David King. The Titans needed to move on from Casey.

Cyprien only played one season with us right?  Injury did him in.  He settled in after a rough start to that first season I thought but Vaccaro was a better safety.  And in codes defense, he had Vaccaro as an honorable mention which I would be completely fine with.  Not like he's some stiff.

Cyprien was a shit signing even ignoring the injury

Vaccaro has been an excellent signing by comparison

I still think a lot of you are far too early to call Wilson the worst draft choice. I'm obviously not a fan of what's happened but I think it's too early to pronounce time of death.

It's a failed pick considering what has happened, but I agree that it is not time to pronounce him dead yet.

I am hopeful that he can turn his life around and become a good/reliable player, but I'm not holding my breath. This offseason will be key as to whether he has a comeback or whether the Titans move on from him.

We have to keep Kelly even at an inflated rate. We can’t draft another tackle early because of holes in the defense. It’s possible we even extend him a couple years to lower the cap hit. It depends on how they feel about his knee.

He’s only had one bad game the entire year against TJ Watt.

He has limitations but I now think they will keep Kelly at the inflated price tag, I agree.

I initially thought there was no chance but with what has happened with Wilson, it's more likely than not. He's also become a major cog in the locker room.

The way he is being managed through this season (only doing the half speed friday practices) indicates some kind of degenerative knee issue.

We don't know that it is degenerative. It could just be managing a minor knee issue, it has happened before with other players - particularly OL - playing through knee strains or even ligament tears.
