Wrong lol, all he has to do is stay healthy and be productive in the scheme and he will most likely get resigned and it will be over 20 mill. That is the best scenario for all around, he wont get top dollar because of his numbers and he should out produce the contract if he stays healthy.

Some GMs are dumb enough to do this.  J Rob isn't.  Budget QBs are still expensive, and signing them to a long contract literally never works out.  If he proves next year that he can stay healthy and play well, which will amount to potential , he'll get another year to prove us right.  I'd rather sign a more expensive contract after seeing a larger sample size of sustained good play from him vs. Signing a cheaper deal and basically hoping it works out after several injury plauged and unproductive seasons.  Expensive QBs who play up to their contracts are always worth it, bargain QBs never are

So guys who play up to their contract are worth it and guys who dont aren't, got it.

It's not your "opinion" that he hasn't done enough to get an extension, he literally does not have an extension. It's a fact he hasn't done enough to get one. Teams usually give them too liberally.

You don't see these rookie QBs play out their contracts like this, MM and Winston are the first two guys that will start the season on their 5th year option without an extension.

It’s still my opinion and that’s what was asked. It’s an investment you have to look at carefully. If it were as black and white as some of you guys want it to be, we wouldn’t even be having this “discussion.” Mariota wouldn’t even be on the team.

Teams get stuck with QBs all the time, remember last year the Jags gave Bortles a 2 year contract. And sure Mariota would be on the team, who were they going to start at QB? Look how long Jake Locker and VY started, 4 years for Locker and 5 years VY was the Titans starter. Remember Bud was about to give VY a new contract.

These guys are given every benefit of the doubt and get extensions way more than they don't.

We should be glad our FO doesn’t work like the Jaguars or like the Titans under Bud Adams.

I thought his ceiling was Alex Smith in KC and hoped we'd start to see that production in  his third year and by the end of his fourth be able to have confidence to count on that production at least with hopes of more in the future.

Instead it appears he's an injury prone half as productive Ryan Fitzpatrick.

After seeing Denver bounce back from the Tim Tebow pick I'm less concerned.  Formula is to keep building the team and land a veteran QB with a can of f*** the world
