Trump is going to get reelected because the Dems are just too stupid.

No, the Dems will not sit home on Election Day this time around. They will actually show up to vote this time because they saw what happened in 2016 when they didn’t.

you sure about that? We are already starting to see polls on the economy that are bad news for the Dems.

Not sure if too stupid is the right phrase, but they do miss the big picture and get caught up in their own minutiae, like now they think they're on the Titanic and agree it's sinking, but in the process of trying to evacuate ship they're arguing over who should hold the life boat assignment clipboard, and whether the format should be in 123 or ABC or perhaps with subsections for different groups, and if they should take their cell phones with them as a function of weight affecting lifeboats vs potential damage to the ocean environment if left to sink.

Sometimes they just can't get out of their own way, unable to let go of a well-intentioned thought that although perhaps important gets dwarfed in scale next to the big pic.

Patrick Leahy said it best:

"You get fifteen democrats in a room, and you get twenty opinions."

Yes, I’m sure. It didn’t matter during the 2016 election, did it?

And the economy is going to look different between now and the election. Growth is slowing now that the big corporate tax repatriation has gone by. The money went into the pockets of the wealthy as expected and everyone knows it. People are seeing the income gap growing. The last jobs report was weak. I’m really not concerned about the economy swinging the election for Trump.

The state of the economy is something Democrats can't control. People either feel positive about the economy or they don't, and if they feel positive about their economy it is a rational decision to not want to change things.

@Rogue want to jump in here?

I hope you are right SK but 2016 taught me the majority of the country is full of sheep who vote against their own interests.

The country is full of sheep. But Trump still only won because of low turnout. That isn’t going to happen again in 2020. Check out the voter turnout in 2018, which was the highest midterm turnout rate in a century.

Plus, plenty of independents who went with Trump in 2016 have already turned on him.

No they don't.  Not if they're told that's not the case by whomever they believe.

What?  About the economy?   I think the economy is doing fine, as it was in 2016.  The question is how people feel about their financial security and for older folks about their retirement.  I don't think much has changed for these small towns that were hurting, as the money is still being pumped into the metropolitan areas.  People's debt hasn't changed much.  In fact, we are at debt loads greater than it was in 2008.  Personal savings rates have dropped as well.  Underemployment has dropped from a post recession high, but still higher than pre recession.

I don't think "good economy" really defines the economic mood of many people.  The ACA, which gave people some sense of some financial security in case their health went south, has been weakened and no one knows what might happen in the event of major health issues.   On top of that the tax break which many have experienced some shocking revelations about.  And on top of that, tax breaks for corporations went largely to investors or stock buybacks and little trickled down to the people.

So yeah, I'm just not sure things have changed much for the common man.  Younger folks inside the tech/health boom are reaping most of the benefits from this economy in terms of middle class people.

At the same time, an unemployed or underemployed person that heard constantly how bad the economy was in 2016 and now constantly hearing how great it is, in a month's time period, may feel it will eventually trickle down to them.  Eventually.

But honestly, who the hell knows?   The common man's plight isn't as straight forward as economy good and difficult to gauge.

Huh?

While this is true, at this stage that doesn't make any sense. Republicans jump on board with their chosen candidate once someone wins the nomination. They went after each other with knives and claws in the last primary. It's happened plenty before, too. They tore poor Dole up for being a RINO, W went scorched earth on McCain, etc.

This is absolutely the time to put these candidates through the ringer. Gotta see who can withstand the heat and scrutiny. Trump and his minions sure aren't going to take it easy on them.

Look at how Biden is getting trounced and torn down by so many major outlets and Democratic voices. That's what Maher was talking about.

Not very smart.

Well on Maher's show recently, Mark Heilemann was going after him, as he has on other venues (and I like Heilemann and watch his show the Circus regularly). I've also seen a ton of talking heads go after him on MSNBC, as well as the liberal "blue checkmark" echo chamber on Twitter.

Many people seem vehemently opposed to a Biden candidacy, but I think they're getting ahead of their skis some. Things will look different in April when Biden comes out with a slew of major African American endorsements and a strangehold on South Carolina, with the support of Jim Clyburn and others.

I don't think that all adds up to "the Democrats" being stupid, but I get your point.

I think Biden needs to be vetted hard, personally. He's got a long record of being a moderate and of losing Presidential nominations. The absolute last thing that needs to happen is Biden be treated with kid gloves, and then get endorsed by all the old guard power in the Democratic Party and coast to the nomination.
