Some of this stuff with Mariota actually seems kind of crazy. Sometimes it makes me wonder if his parent were actually kind of emotionally abusive to him or something. A lot of his behavior is just not normal.

Your go-to assumption when you notice that someone is ridiculously polite and well-mannered is that he was abused??

Some people aren't going to like this but an older gruff guy like Robiskie probably had a lot of problems relating to Mariota. There's generational gaps that sometimes can't be crossed by some people. LeBeau was ancient but he worked to relate to his players. I don't think Robiskie was that kind of guy.

LaFleur and Mariota seem like pretty similar personalities. They're closer in age.

I honestly bet that their ability to form a better working relationship is the reason for their success. Mariota likely never felt comfortable speaking his mind to Mularkey or Robiskie and they, being older and from a different generation, would have never thought to try to get Mariota out of his shell.

I think that you may be onto something here. I always wondered if his parents somehow denied him his childhood perhaps even stunted it.   my guess is that Mularkey knew this all along. It's probably why he kept having the snow cone truck at practice. He was a suppose to be a qb whisperer.  It takes a village to raise a child.

The psychoanalysis in this thread is cringe worthy.  Might be abused?  Jesus, some of the weeds you dudes wade into are crazy.  This might be up their with the conspiracy theory that they faked Marcus's injury so they could bench him.

And it continues, he had abusive parents, lol. None of these posters has had one minute of  face time and meaningful conversation with the guy, but they can ascertain the depth of his character by watching video clips.

This is just part of the process of building a relationship with your coach. Is it different with Mariota's personality? Absolutely. But it is something they can improve on. Also this is big for Mariota's development because he isn't going to have the same OC for his entire career. At some point taking the next step for him is having control of HIS offense.

Calling the play to MM after Brady tripped was as huge a fuck you as you’ll ever see. The best part is it was a respectful FU.

It was fun and all but they need to cut out that BS. Why are you risking your QB like that in a blowout win.

Correct. Now it’s up to him to finally move past those slow starts and go back to his Oregon days where putting up 30 was the minimum 9 times out of 10.

Hey, at the start of Bye week Vrabel said he was impressed with Mariota's 4th qtr passer rating of ~125, and how he needed it to be like that for 4 qtrs.

And here we are two weeks later and what is his passer rating avg over the last 2 games?  122.

I think Vrabel and LaFleur are on the right track.

It’s a good point. Sometime in year 5-7 he just needs to basically be running the offense. The issue has been the first 4 years and switching guys so he’s not learning a damn thing to get to that level. However, watching the way he ran the offense last year when he went to hurry up on his own and calling his own plays, it should be encouraging for the future.
