Democratic Nomination for 2020 - UPDATED to include those who have officially announced

People fret too much about whether this or that guy is too progressive or not moderate enough or too white or whatever. Obviously it is important that the Democratic nominee not be outside the mainstream, and a minority or woman candidate would be exciting, but the right candidate is more important than the particular policy positions or race or gender. I mean didn't Trump finally make that very very clear?

 

Any Democratic nominee for President will be painted by the right as a far left radical. If the nominee is a John Kerry, who looks, talks, and acts like a far left liberal, they can easily sell that. Ditto for an unlikable Hillary. It's why Warren wouldn't have a chance, and probably not Kamala Harris, who I really like BTW. But I haven't heard her speak much so maybe she can transcend that, but I have my doubts.

 

But for a guy like Beto, for example, that dog won't hunt. He is a likable guy. No one who listens to him speak and gets to know him will think of him as a far left liberal, and his positions are not that far left anyway.  But he ran as an unapologetic progressive in Texas and got new voters to come out in droves and almost won. Hell look at Obama, who actually was kind of a radical dude in his youth. Now Obama's positions once he became a politician were actually not that far left, but if anyone could have been painted as a far left radical when he ran in 2008, the black community organizer from Chicago south side was that guy. And it didn't stick to him. He won in one of the biggest landslides we have had, won in places Democrats never win.

 

The package really is much more important than the nuanced policy positions.

Basically the candidate just needs BDE.

Heh, I like how they initially had the title as "stealing" as you can see in the URL and then changed it to "draining." IDK if i'm as upset as you about it since it says that right above the donate area.

 

It's a pretty normal thing on Act Blue. This is kind of a standard way for Democratic politicians to raise money for each other on there. I would be surprised if the Abrams campaign didn't know and approve this kind of thing.

Yeah people need to chill out. Anyone who thought Hillary was going to go away quietly and gracefully is crazy. I mean there's a reason why no one really likes her. 

 

We can't control who runs, and if she runs, she runs. She will not win the nomination.

 

Oh yeah and Mark Penn went off the deep end a while ago. He's a joke.

If it was just Penn pitching a Clinton run I would agree. There has been noise about it from multiple sources for the last few months. Hopefully logic prevails because if the Dems trot her out again it will end badly.

yeah.

 

If she runs again she'll lose. The field won't consist of only people like Webb, Chaffe, O'Mally, and Sanders this time.

 

2016 she cleared the field for herself. Obviously that's not happening now and I don't think she would win a competitive primary.

 

I don't think she'll want to embarrass herself, but I guess you never know.
