I also like that Vrabel mentioned getting Marcus into a good groove with short passes & to also emphasize screens.

Anyone with half a brain would do that.  It's amazing how incompetent this staff really was.

This was one of the biggest positive takeaways for me from his interviews.

Cosell was also talking about how the “coverage consistency” that Vrabel referred to and is a staple of the Patriots and Texans defenses, means that they play a limited number of coverages in order to prevent communication breakdowns leading to big plays.

I know LeBeau and others run complex coverages that may have a man to man look on one side and zone on the other. Or like you were saying, option coverages comparable to the concept of option routes on offense. So less room for error.

Not the biggest Cosell fan, but he is on Midday 180 right now and mentioned this:

That makes the pursuit of Brian Callahan a bit more interesting to me.

Not much on Cosell either, but I could handle a Callahan hire for Marcus.

The Pats game was essentially a clinic on how to incorporate running backs in the passing game....which is something the Titans should have been doing all along with Murray.

I doubt Mularkey and Robiskie learned anything from the experience....except for the fact that after sitting through a three-hour clinic, they still can't figure out how to defend it.

Hopefully Vrabel's staff has a very different philosophy toward the passing game, both offensively and defensively.

quick passes sound great...and I am hopeful of seeing an much improved screen game...since historically the Tits are horrible at both running them and defending them.

Lo White and Pinkett would disagree with you but that was the Oilers so never mind.

LeBeau plays a lot of "matchup zone", which in very simple terms is where the corner plays man against certain routes, usually shorter ones, but it turns into zone once that route reaches a certain depth. It can be complicated, which is probably why those Steelers teams usually had vets who weren't necessarily shutdown corners but communicated well & didn't make mistakes.

He has changed to more man with us though, certainly playing more aggressive coverages.

Its interesting that the Pats play limited coverages, I always thought they were known to be pretty exotic in that area. I do know that when Mangini was the DC that he tried some stuff that was overly complex & it led to some issues with BB.

We actually got a pretty good rush but Brady just completely mitigated it with the RB passes. It drove me nuts.

The pass rush was terrible that game.  Brady basically was able to take a nap and do whatever he wanted.  He got hurried maybe 2-3 times later in the game.  All in all it was a terrible performance by the front 7.  Probably from poor scheming.

Yea, maybe they are the staff that beats Brady and BB

Let's hope they don't look buffoonish on offense like we did this past season, relying on an old man's defense to bail us out every game.
