A number of scouts weren't convinced that Mariota, who rarely took snaps from under the center, would be able to adjust to playing in a pro style offense. The Titans believed he could and selected him with the No. 2 pick of the 2015 NFL draft. The people that did believe Mariota would be successful figured it would take him a few years to adapt.

Oilerman and a few others is still not convinced.

My only concern with Mariota at this point is his slight build.  He's just not built like a mac truck like guys like Newton, Luck, and Rothelisburger.  He has to learn to protect himself better and the Titans have to continue to invest to protect him, both with the scheme and with a good oline.

That's it.  He has literally checked every other box of what I want to see imo.  He's going to be really, really, really good if he can stay healthy.  I think he's already really good and was undervalued around the league last year.  He was the best QB in the league for about 5-6 weeks last season.  It's his second year and this is a kid who doesn't like to make the same mistake twice.

I'm convinced he's going to be an elite QB, he showed all the traits last year and improved on all of his weaknesses.

I'm just not afraid to point out he's still inconsistent or point out when he screws up. No matter who it makes cry.

He might even struggle coming off the broken leg and 2018 might be more of his coming out party rather than this coming year.

They likely run the ball early to protect him.

A couple of weapons will go a long way to improve his health..specifically the ability to have more big chunk plays, whether through a #1 wr, making Murray more of a pass catching back for the year, or the emergence of Amaro as a legitimate TE.. knowing we have the ability to get those kind of plays means he can also throw the ball away more often IMO

Yes.  Guys who can get open means he gets the ball out faster and takes less hits.

I don't expect that this year.........

Then your wrong.  They're going to run the ball.  In case you haven't been paying attention they love Murray and Henry and the vertical part of the offense is largely predicated off running the ball.

The QBs who will make the transformation from college spread QB to NFL QB capable of reading NFL defenses and making successful progressions will be rarer than ever. Marietta has the mental capacity to do so.

Because he's not black. Amirite?

Spread QBs are not taught to read defenses. In their spread read option offenses, they have two progressions to go through. Most often times they have a pre-determined target they throw to. They have not learned to read defend see. Marietta is one of the rare collegiate read option QBs who was able to read defenses and go through his progressions to run a NFL offense.

That what was different about MM.  You could see him going through his progressions at Oregon.
