The thing is over the past 10-15 years the highest bust rate in the first round isn't actually QB, it's WR.

Howard is the safer pick, and if he did turn into a stud would cost 1/2 what a stud WR would in the second deal. You go Howard at 5, Mccaffrey at 18 and you don't need to draft offense again for 5 years.

Those two pieces make our offense the most dynamic in the league.

I doubt seriously we go in that direction, as we were very productive offensively, but to continually state that Howard isn't worth the 5th pick isn't well thought out.

The fact that Saban kept it on the ground 70% of the time isn't Howard's fault.

No way. This kid can block. Cook had 0 interest in blocking.

Agreed, totally not comparable to Cook.

That said he's not a top 5 player. Top 15 though.

Maybe he is a reach at 5, but I'm not sure it's a big reach any more.

I never have that problem of wanting a guy if he's in proximity and fits the team versus where 'niks put him and then worrying about a complicated maneuver to "land in the right spot."

When it happens to the Pats, everyone goes, Well, the Patriots know what they're doing.

Super Bowl ring or not, I want them to say that about Robinson, too. Sure, trade down is cool and all if you still get what you want, but there's too many nights between now and the draft for me to lose that much sleep.

I'm saying, fuck the number, if we get these guys, they'll be Titans for years to come. This ain't the old days of crazy rookie contract breakfast cereal anymore. Lot less at stake from a numbers POV.

I love this thread.  Just a few weeks ago we were saying #18 was too early to take Howard, some saying that's why we need that 2nd round pick..  Now, we have advocacy for taking Howard #5.  If Belichick has him in for a weekend, we will be trying to trade our #5 & #18 to move up to snag him.

Dunno about that, but like SK said, you ask what if?

Ok, so he can block. He's as tall as a tackle. He ran a low 4.5. He can play the position with balance. He's good character and wants to play. He's that guy you can make look like the X out wide and teams will have to pay attention to that. That safety is already thinking ahead. This guy can open up and disguise so much stuff regardless of actual production, and the team would benefit either way. I love it.

And then consider McCaffery. It's a lot of fun.

who keeps talking about his elite athleticism saying he blows everyone out of the water there?

He was great at the 40 and thats about it. the quickness and agility drills were average or worse.

Let's put it this way... if it was Delanie Walker would he be worth the #5 pick?

I don't think so, but then Delanie Walker isn't 6'6" + 250lbs and can run the 40 in 4.5 seconds. As good as Walker is, Howard has the potential to be a lot better.
