Shooting down the fan hysteria and preconceived bias against the offense

The level of criticism and fan overreaction is laughable concerning the offensive design .

Allow me to present some pesky facts that shoot down a lot of the rhetoric.....

Leading up until the 2nd drive of the 3rd quarter than ended in a pick 6 the Titans offense had been very effective.

194 yards of offense in the first half

The Titans were a great 8 of 11 on 3rd down up until the pick 6 and had 13 first downs

The Titans were 2 of 3 inside the redzone.

Mariota had a +100 passer rating up until the pick 6.

@Jamalisms, the idea you're patting yourself on the back after this game is comical. You were 100% incorrect with your criticism of the offensive design.

You're big gripe was Mularkey was going to have a run based offense from heavy sets and not let Mariota command the offense from a quick passing game and from shotgun.

Congrats buddy, Mularkey/Robeskie did exactly what you wanted. Up until the pick 6 the Titans passed the ball 28 times vs 18 runs. In the first half it was 14 runs vs 21 passes. Mariota was in shotgun 25 freaking times up until the pick 6. The Titans ran the no huddle one multiple drives.

Did you see a lot of heavy sets that you were against? I sure didn't. Fowler, two TE sets? Nope. I did see a lot of 3 WR formations though.

The Titans essentially ran the exact offense you claimed to have wanted to see and now you;re saying "I told you so"

Anyone bitching about the read option plays, I didn't see you after the TB opener last season. This is what you get with a mobile QB from a college spread, everyone in the league is doing it, it works.

I even thought the trick play to Henry was well designed. Getting Henry on the edge in space is good in theory, the Vikes playd it well, period. The Titans were still excellent on 3rd down.

The Titans lost this game because they gave up a long returns followed bu 3 turnovers, 2 of which were returned for TDs.

The offensive design was not only not bad it was working and effective.

Now go back to the crazy nonsense

That is why I was arguing against some people in the thread that Mariota had an awful day prior to the INT.

I think we were a bit too exotic at times. Too many trick plays seemed desperate, especially on the 3rd & 1. If we're going to be smashmouth we have to smash sometimes.

I absolutely love the offense sets.  It creative we have never had around here.  Change is uncomfortable...it will take time before people get their heads out their asses to embrace the change.

Great job Terry R!  It was fun watching the offense until the turnovers took over.

A brutal offensive has just been launched at Jamal.

All kidding aside this is a 100% right. Basically no team in the league is winning against a defense this good with 2 return TD's like that. To blame it on the scheme is just force fitting current narratives.

Is unreal how far posters move the goalposts when trying to shout down an opposing view. Of course the two return TDS costs the Titans the game, that's irrefutable. One can still lambasted the college style gimmick like offense. Which if some of you aren't aware Oman made reference to in chat yesterday.

His point was there isn't a coach in the league that wouldn't use some college concepts with a QB like Marcus. Seattle does it, Carolina does it, everybody with a mobile QB does it.

Now, the trick plays are a different story. Mularkey has always had an unhealthy obsession with flea flickers that's annoying.

This certainly wasn't the offense we saw during the preseason. Of course, if we saw this offense during the preseason Mularkey might not have made it to this game.

Mariota running the offense like Peyton Manning, calling plays and switching it up constantly in the no-huddle is when we moved the ball. The rest of that nonsense, which actually wasn't spreading them out as I called for (nice try loser) but did have all sorts of nonsense trickery (almost like those stupid preseason statue of liberty plays were foreshadowing), was completely ineffective. So much for putting Mariota in the perfect offense to protect him and keep him in short downs and distances. Instead, the whole thing was on his back and he's out there running high-school plays that Mularkey drew up on a napkin pregame. Nice use of Walker, too!

Game plan was amazing.

We got beat at home by a team you said was lucky to make the playoffs, who lost their QB right before the game and started Shaun Hill. But hey - we almost looked better than them on offense!!

Are we still winning 10 games?

Titans had more 1st downs, better 3rd-D %, more yards, two off TDs, no TDs given by D, gave up no special teams TDs...and lost. Remarkable.

Some of those offensive stats were during garbage time, but yes, the offense got good results in the first half.  It was quirky, but ultimately it was working.
