Baylor Hoops Standout Looking to Become NFL TE

Could be an interesting UDFA prospect. Definitely has the size. Probably needs to lose a little more weight though.

Gathers, who sure looks the part in a thick and chiseled 6-foot-7, 276-pound frame, thought about playing one year of college football at Baylor, like Jimmy Graham did at Miami. But then he decided to go the Antonio Gates route instead, skipping college football entirely.

id draft him with our 7th. thats where you take big time projects.

faster 10 yard split than graham. 2nd most explosive rating in sports science history? 11% body fat @276  .. big hands. dude is a freak on the football field.

if he can catch, i dont know how you dont do it.

Still dont understand why more college basketball players arent doing this. I went to high school with a guy who gave up football to focus on basketball. He got drafted after an awesome career at UCSB but has bounced around the NBA. Could have been a NFL TE at 6'5 with a 6'11 wingspan.

If we're going to draft a tight end this year, and it's not Hunter Henry, then I'd rather it be either Austin Hooper or Nick Vannett in the 3rd. We've gone the project route with tight ends before, either late round (Taylor Thompson) or as early as the 2nd round (Ben Troupe), and they didn't pan out worth a damn.

Add Tyler Higbee to the list too.

I reeeeally like Vannett.

However I suck at TE evaluating. Only reason I'm completely sold on Henry is bc its so obvious he is the complete package.

I like Adams a lot. However I think he will be another Cook type at TE.

Bummed OJ Howard didn't come out.

Uh no. He got arrested for beating up a guy in a bar a few weeks ago.  The victim ended up with a brain hemmorage.  He might go undrafted.

No idea how he'd translate to football, but saw him play a number of games at Baylor and he is a heckuva rebounder.  Great ball awareness, anticipation, body positioning and extremely strong hands.  Not sure that means much for football but couldn't hurt his cause.

Well, I think I'll keep the list to Hooper and Vannett.

I will say that if I had to chooce between Hooper and Vannett I'd go with Hooper. Judging from the video I posted he seems like he's a bit faster/quicker, more of a pass catcher, and looks like a decent blocker.
