KnoxTitan
I really think a top notch corner would help this team immensely, and if we're in a position come April, need to seriously look at VHIII. We have 2 guys in the secondary who are league average, at best, in Cox and Searcy. Griffin, Bleedy, and Sensabaugh are far below. Griffin is just bad. Sensabaugh and BWW are just athletes with no ball skills. A guy like VHIII would allow us to move McCourty to safety, get rid of Griffin, and put either Bleedy or Sensabaugh in the slot where they're less likely to be exposed. The front 7 wasn't great yesterday, but they are missing Morgan and the Jags just seemed to block everything extremely well. That doesn't always happen, and every once in a while, you just need to tip your cap to the opponent. We need help all over this team, but if there's a unit that has seemed to played well this year, it's the front 7, and i'm willing to give them a pass for yesterday. The Jags had 39 points, converted an unheard of 10 of 14 3rd downs and they were 6 for 6 in the redzone. The difference in the game was the 3 missed extra points. The Jags also destroyed the Titans blitz, Bortles was 14 of 19 for 141 yards 4 TDs when the Titans blitzed. He had a 134 passer rating overall. The Titans need skill people but in order to really contend the defense has to be greatly improved. We were absolutely ripped apart. Every D is gonna have a tough day but the Raiders bent us over last week as well. For all the flak the secondary gets the last 2 weeks were on the front 7. We actually had decent coverage yesterday considering the time BB had in the pocket.
Face
The secondary is an easy target but the front 7 has been putrid the last 2 weeks.
Alcibiades
Couple of rough weeks, yeah. But overall, I like our defense going forward. We are missing some key guys out there, and if our guys catch two INTs that bounced off their hands, we look a LOT better. In any case, the defense has kept us in a lot of games this year when the offense let us down. Bout time the offense took up the slack on a game. Ramsey is the better player at our pick if we go CB. Not a big fan of Hargreaves. I like King too. That kid has some skills.
T-RAC
1 hour ago, OILERMAN said: Besides the fact the Panthers defense wasn't responsible for 10 of the points this is ludicrous reasoning. The Saints only had the ball 23 mins, only converted 3 3rd downs and only had 334 total yards and only had 70 yards rushing. The Panthers had 3 turnovers and returned one for a TD. What's ludicrous is the idea that it's the defense that's keeping the Titans from contending. Did the defense have a bad day against the Jag's? Yep. Did you forget this is the 2nd time in 3 week we played the Jags? The first game was much lower scoring. Some of what you saw yesterday was the result of adjustments made after that game. It helped both offenses. Bortles is much improved this year against the blitz, especially. Should it be surprising that he had a good day against blitzes he just played against 2 weeks ago after reviewing his own tape? I know the defense has weaknesses. There is a hole at corner because McCourty is getting old and brittle. There's arguably a hole at safety because Griff is about as consistent as 9 Nines opinions. If your point is the defense isn't stacked top to bottom, then good job. Still, this defense is good enough to win with. The offense isn't. The offense has 2 players to hang your hat on, and one of them tight end on the wrong side of 30. That's what's holding the team back.

SleepingTitan
They've earned a rest, IMO. They've carried this team all fucking year with no results. It's about time the offense matched their tenacity, but honestly, our entire offense has turned into Marcus.
SleepingTitan
What a hero that guy is. I mean, he came out and said that he's gotta do more to help us win. He's taken every loss to heart like it was all his fault. He has more heart than Rocky Marciano.
reo
This is what happens when you blitz a lot... you get burned especially late in games when teams have had all game to figure out your blitzes. If you come up against a team that protects well then you're going to have to score points then hope your defense forces an opportune turnover that makes the difference. We could obviously use another corner and I'd like more dynamic set of safeties though. Personally I think a good power back might be a higher priority. pat
Reposting this chart because this is what we're talking about here: The pass defense has been ripped to shreds week after week. This is why the Titans can't put teams away in the fourth quarter and also why any mistake by the QB results in a loss. All three wins feature off the chart, record breaking QB play. While that play validates the selection of Mariota this defense needs to get its act together or we'll keep losing.

We have a weak schedule, so those numbers are inflated. No doubt on a tougher schedule our defense's ranking would be lower. Fortunately for the offense, it's hard to get much lower. I don't know how one looks at the defense and thinking it's more an issue than the offense, but, whatever. That said, with the exception of a few positions, I think we can fairly safely go BPA in the draft and manage to improve the team.

Can't see the chart but I still think we have trouble in the 4th b/c teams have figured out our blitzes by then. We could probably use better corners though... might give our blitzes more time to get there if they can stay w/ their guys longer.

The Bills had about 9 yards with 10 minutes left in the game & Manziel made 2 big throws & did nothing else. But the last 6 weeks our D has been ripped apart through the air.
