I guess I could start to slide at 48-50 but it seems highly unlikely

If you're walking a route daily carrying the bag you probably won't.  My slide started when I ruined a meniscus, and my mobility was limited for about 3 months.

But the durability went away about the same time.   After 50 things just weren't as durable for me, and every time I turned around something got sprained.  Knee, ankle, shoulder etc.

Gettin' old ain't for wimps.

Right around the time I was getting my own route after being a sub for 5 years, another older carrier retired.  I guess he was around 55-60 or so maybe, not sure.

Kinda heavy set/stocky guy, but not really obese or anything.  Looked like he was in ok shape.

A month after he retired, he died of a heart attack.  What a retirement.  But, at least he got to enjoy a full month from that place I guess.

Angry, senile, and seemingly spending more time on a message board than actually out living life?

I know.  There were quite a few of us carriers that had discussions about when to get out of the P.O after he died.  A couple years after that I left early at 49 when the market crashed and I saw my opportunity to go all in and do my own thing.  That was about 6 years ago.

I still chat with a lady who is a postal carrier and she said that about half the regs that were there back then have retired already.  That's a lot of people retired, but it seems around here anyway age 60 or so is the time to get out and enjoy life or either get another job besides being a mail carrier. lol

I hope Oman can make it to his 59 1/2 goal and get that pension because he'll probably be ready to leave by then! :P
