earlers
Remember a couple of weeks back, there was a supposed shortage of quality QBs coming out of college because of spread offenses? I called BS on that notion. However, if you read other teams boards, it appears that darn near every team has offensive line problems. Hell, Levitre stunk up the joint and is now starting on the line for the Falcons. There's an offensive line epidemic and now Bill Polian just mentioned it. He cites lack of training due to CBA restrictions. Seriously, it's everywhere. We play the Colts next...what are they crying about? The GM hasn't fixed the O-line. It's bad out there for most teams. Alcibiades
Yeah. That's also why the run games are bad for every team. Around here, people blame our RBs, but the truth is that the more physical parts of the game (running, blocking, etc.) aren't practiced as much as the finesse parts (passing, catching, etc.), and it's not just because of a trend toward passing. The CBA prevents it. Just about every team is terrible at this at the start of the season. We're actually doing pretty well running the ball, relatively speaking. wildwar
I hated the Lewan pick when we made it but looking back on it he might be the best pick we had in years. Yeah he has some stuff he needs to work on mainly penalties but he is already better than half the LT in the league. Also they drafted Fowler they should start using him more for the blocks when Poutasi gets beat one on one every other play.
CreepingDeath
I don't know how well this comparison works, but the current rules on practices is still more (taken as a whole year-round) than in the long-past eras of NFL, right? I'm not saying that more contact and formal practices wouldn't help. Further, couldn't more players choose to do like Warmack and practice independent of the team? MamlngEnvy
I think its more to do with the evolution of d lineman..these guys are bigger, faster, stronger, smarter than ever before. Even the quickest lineman have a hard time keeping up with these guys. o lineman need to catch up. More need to be more like lewan athletically and not like chance, just a fat blob. I think the two are related. The OL skill set to play traditional NFL offenses are not necessary to play well in spread offenses. So, when these guys get to the NFL they have a larger learning curve than other position players. Warmack is a stud OG. He was in college, so much so that some suggested he was the best player coming out into the draft. He's dedicated and a good solid citizen. The guy works hard to get better. But he's not had the proper coaching in college and in time spent by the Titans. He spent his time and money to go to LeChrales Bentley's camp to improve his game. The results are debatable, but the issue is obvious.

How bout 520 making some nice points lately? I agree with this, it seems like the DL are becoming freakier & freakier & advancing more than the OL. Watt & Donald could be the 2 freakiest athletes in the league. But even outside of them, guys like Mo Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, Marcell Dareus, just physical monsters. You used to just have bigger, run stopping types & quicker, pass rushing types. Now you have 320 lb guys who move like 240 lbers.
Titan8425
Speaking to our problem specifically: Has anybody read anything about our scouts being brought to task? I know FO/HC make the picks, but it's the scouts job to find the talent and weed out the over whelming amount of players the FO/HC look at for draft. Have we had any movement with our scouts? Face
You know back in the Fisher days people hated that we always had smaller, athletic OL. I remember people always wanted to draft or sign huge road graders & would be pissed when we wouldn't. I admit I wanted to at times as well. But we always kept the QB upright. There was never a period where the QB was getting crushed, in over a decade. It really is amazing, from the time Fisher took over until he left we pretty much always had good OL's.
