I suppose there is some value to this but maybe, just maybe this coaching and mentoring aspect is overblown as well.  I mean are there a half dozen stud QBs Whitehurst has nurtured over the years I'm missing (name ONE)?  Oh wait. I remember.  He helped Jake learn the system and succeed.  Look at the guy.  I noted a while back this guy has the best gig in football for the amount of (or lack of) talent he has.  He makes a few mil basically doing nothing.

Well, maybe he had some hand in helping Mett go from a 6th rd pick and afterthought to a guy talked about as a potential starter in his second year?

But that is beside the point - we aren't really talking about direct development, per se, more just giving our young guys a vet they can talk to and bounce ideas off of and who can help keep the ship steady.

I'm not denying there is some value to having a vet to talk to and share ideas with. For example Charlie can show Mariota where the hottest chicks are and where he bought his boat.  Stuff like that.

Whitehurst is a guy who shouldn't even be in the league he sucks so bad.  We could have kept Rusty fing Smith and accomplished the same thing.  You guys talk like this is Curt Warner, Superbowl MVP doing the mentoring.  I'd accept the argument maybe if we were still talking about Hass when he was here.  A guy who actually PLAYED QB in the NFL and ACCOMPLISHED something.  Whitehurst had a 63 QB rating when he came to TN.  He started in 4 games in 8 years.  Kerry Collins would make a better mentor.  What does Charlie know?

Oh, and by the way Wiz actually simplified things for Big Ben his rookies season.  Ben said it was like taking away half the field.  But it worked and later things were allowed to open up.  People try and make far more out of this stuff and to be honest, knowing how Whitehurst career has gone I don't want that guy teaching my QB.

Fucking gold. Good shit Sox.

Nothing wrong with a good boat adviser.

As for CBJ as a QB, if he were better, he wouldn't BE a backup. He is what he is. He's not a starter in this league. But he's a good backup. He's our 3rd QB. I disagree with those who think he'd be the backup on a given week. I think Mett will be the backup, actually, because he's our second best QB. But Whitehurst has a place on the team. We get to keep an emergency QB active. It's an extra guy you can keep active, right? Or did that rule change?

Charlie is very inspiring - life on easy street

Hell it isn't just Charlie his dad David Whitehurst was a mediocre QB back in the day for Green Bay earning a paycheck for nearly a decade from late seventies/mid eighties throwing 28TD/51INT with a 59.2 QB rating. Then good 'ol son Charlie joins the league getting a dapper job as a backup QB making a couple million a season. Charlie has been in the league about a decade too just like his dad before him. Charlie has 10TD/6INT with a 77.0 QB rating in nine years of action. Nice work if you can get it.

Don't be lazy, google is your friend when you want information.

That still wouldn't tell me what your criteria was. Stats? W-L record? So you're saying his stats are worst in the league and that's what makes him the worst back-up? I don't think CW is the best b/u in the league but he's not the worst either.

It must be is win loss record........  wait.  Prior to coming to TN he was 1-3 as a starter.  He was 0-6 last year although he played a significant amount of time in the win over the JAGS.  Speaking of JAGS.  I'm not sure I can even put Charlie in the JAG category.  He isn't even that high.

I thought he might be on the bubble this year. My criteria for a back up QB is simple. Can he win games if the #1 goes down. THAT answer would be probably not for CW. That said, no way he's the worst in the league. One of worst, maybe. Judging by the photo he doesn't look too worried about it .
