oldschool
I love the American elitism that is pervasive throughout this thread.

KogaShuko
I guess i could take jamal more seriously on the subject once i listen to his MLS podcast. Link? Im well aware of the chart prag has provided and action each sport offers( i even played for 12 years growing up...have either of you played football?). I just happen prefer the 3-5 second bursts of intensity that it does offer in between whistles in comparison to whatever part you would find enjoyable in soccer. KogaShuko
Actually im left footed and had developed my "foot skills" just fine. I even had the opportunity to play in the rep (premiere) league for whatever thats worth to you. What i didnt develop was a deeper passion for the game. I have never been able to get into watching it on a professional level despite being around an environment that its particularly popular in. Hockey and football were way more enticing. The biggest advantage soccer has right now imo is affordability. I skipped over most of the thread so im not sure if it was mentioned... Everything is so much cheaper involving soccer (in north america anyways) and that is actually one of great things about it. Doesnt take much to be able to play..where as the others have all the expensive equipment and really limits kids from lower income houses. I didnt even want to get involved in this pissing contest...because im not even disagreeing with you pro-soccer guys. Its definitely getting more popular in north america...and i guess unlike a couple of the other guys posting againts it im not really threatened by this..because i realize theres always going to be a huge factiion of people like me who cant stand watching it and prefer the action in contact sports... its why they invented Rugby! My main point was wanting / asking for the thread to be moved to the other sports section since its been basically derailed and not truly nfl related since about midway down on page one and i come.here for titans news not MLS ratings! Sorry we have this xenophobic blister that has to be lanced once a year between the draft and preseason games. A soccer thread does the trick. In the us it's not cheaper though. Club and tourney fees make it very hard for many youth to play. Pay to play as they say.

Legaltitan
The funniest part about scine's stupid language rant is that there is no country in the world that is in the same ballpark as the US when it comes to absorbing, incorporating and assimilating immigrants. Go to any other country (other than perhaps Canada) and the immigrant community, such as it exists, is completely closed off and insular and it's own world. All those people speaking Spanish that drive you crazy? They are almost certainly first generation. They are speaking Spanish because that is their first language, they are the most comfortable with it, and that will be the case until the day they die no matter how much you and your racist wife jump up and down, and no matter how many English classes they take. But their kids will be speaking English and be as American as apple pie. If they live in the South they are as likely to identify with rednecks as they are with their prior country's culture. There is no other country in the WORLD where this is the case - where not only is it likely, you can BET on the fact that the children of immigrants will be fully assimilated. i.e. full assimilation in one generation. oldschool
As I was walking into my building a few minutes ago I overheard two construction workers conversing in Spanish and busted out laughing. Thanks for providing a morning laugh Scine.
