Jadeveon Clowney, the next Greg Oden?

He got injured during the NFL season. Not in college. He jumped and landed on one of the seams in the turf. Players have constantly complained about the playing surface. Yet the Texans have not fixed the issue. According to players, it's uneven, there are seams.

"The turf has been at the center of controversy since NRG Stadium opened in 2002.

Former Texans punter Brett Hartmann in 2012 sued the county that operates the stadium, alleging “unsafe turf” was to blame for a career-ending ACL injury. New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick called it “one of the worst fields (he’s) seen” after then-wide receiver Wes Welker blew out his ACL on it in 2010. More recently, Texans safety D.J. Swearinger said 2014 No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney told him that Clowney’s meniscus tear Week 1 against Washington was caused by the field.

At issue is how the surface is created, by laying together a series of square panels that are grown outside the stadium and carted in. As a result, there are often holes, seams and uneven levels of turf that, players say, isn’t safe."

Interesting. But I thought the meniscus tear was only what alerted them to the fact he needed micro fracture surgery and not its impetus.

He was out 4-6 weeks with the tear, came back and played 3 games. But the constant pain led to another examination which led to the micro fracture surgery. The question is, was it misdiagnosed or rushing back to play damaged the knee even more.

If he doesn't play another down, does he sue the Texans for a known issue? Some people say, the Texans are not replacing the field because that would help the punter's lawsuit and could be taken as the Texans admitting guilt.

It will be interesting if Watt gets hurt on that field.

AC Milan was supposed to play an exhibition match at NRG back in August, and their coach told Bob McNair "This field is not fit for goats".

Jeez, the poor guys main concern was getting hurt his last year in college & then the guy destroys his knee on Opening Day. The Texans got the 1st pick in the draft, he does nothing for them, and they still finish 7 games ahead of us. Yikes.

I think DeMeco Ryans got it even worse. He won defensive rookie of the year  and in his 5th season, tore his achilles while dropping into pass coverage on that turf. He returns, he's not fully recovered, loses some speed, the Texans switch to a 3-4 and he gets traded to the Eagles in 2011.

He starts 40 straight games with the Eagles and last year, he returns to Houston, blows out his achilles again and is out for the season. What are the odds, a player ruptures his achilles twice in the same stadium? Once on his home field and the second time when he's on the visiting team? Both non-contact injuries. Now he's a potential 2015 cap casualty.

Wow. Now that's fucked. How in the hell is this being allowed?

What's bullshit about that was the Blazer's GM lost his job over that pick. There's not a GM in the history of basketball who would've passed on Oden in that draft.

I never understood those claiming Oden was great.  I watched a lot of OSU games, and thought Durant was the much better prospect.  If Durant played on a team without a ball-hogging prima donna, he would be winning MVPs every year.

I said for the last 6 years okc and Boston should trade rondo for Westbrook.

What? Durant puts absurd statistics up despite Westbrook. Durant's offensive game is enabled by a ball handler like Westbrook. Sure the guy has a huge usage rate, but in a lot of ways the threat of Westbrook is a huge benefit to Durant and only hurts the rest of the scrubs on the Thunder.

Don't get me wrong, as a Grizzlies fan I hate Westbrook as much if not more than any other player in the game, but he is not doing anything to hinder or hold back KD. If anything, I'd say Westy frequently draws the kind of defensive players that frees Durant up a little bit. He certainly got Tony Allen off his ass a couple of times.

There is only one reason Durant doesn't have more MVPs, and that's LeBron James.

Anyways, Rondo's just as egotistical if not more so--he just plays a different game. No way his weird head space plays well with KD.

I just saw this now, Jesus, has it been known for awhile that the Houston turf is that bad? Because the stadium itself looks beautiful.

I don't recall any team trying to trade up for clowney. I can't remember the last time any team made a blockbuster trade at the top of the draft for a pass rusher. It's always a QB

Because every team can use a pass rusher and they are not willing to trade back in the draft and lose that.
