Greg Cossell vs Trent Dilfer on Zach Mettenberger

Excellent comparison captured by @NewsToTom, Tom Gower.

Gregg Cossell has an excellent segment on 104.5 and Dilfer has on Plaster's show.  Both are very good at what they do.

In short, Cossell has been big on Mett before the draft and still is, and Dilfer, not so much.

Mett actually is the first in the building and last to leave. Wis and Webster have both made a point of that. As usual, Dilfer doesn't know wtf he's talking about.

I think he is off base there too.  However, I am a little concerned about his lack of mobility in the pocket.  That is something he will have to work on and I assume he can develop.

He showed plenty of mobility in the pocket the other night and all the mobility in the pocket he'll ever need.

Brady and Manning don't have much mobility and they seem to do just fine. Mettenberger is improving each and every game and the best chance this team has had at QB since McNair left. The lack of mobility is a bit overblown.

Dilfer was interviewed on the radio recently and said Mett needed to work in throws where his feet and arm angle were not perfect , as well as speed up his decisions and delivery.. I certainly did not think he was dissing him in the radio interview ..

Dilfer's gotten really involved in the QB evaluation and development business the last couple years. He definitely has some guru-ish aspects to him, but I don't dismiss what he says about the position easily. He also absolutely nailed Locker coming out. He talks to enough people I'd bet the LSU work ethic thing was something he heard from somebody (or somebody who knew somebody) at LSU. If Mettenberger is putting the work now that he didn't at LSU (Dilfer gave an extended disquisition later in the pocket about putting in the lonely work later in his appearance I didn't bother to transcribe), good.

On the comments from current team officials how about how hard current player is working, see Rusty Smith, or from earlier this year, all the comments in support of Jake Locker.

He mentioned Brady and Peyton and basically said they are the only two good enough to get away with it.  And he said mobility, like Brees, Rogers, Luck, Big Ben and not like Cam, Kaepernick, RG3.

I am a big Mett guy and think he will be good for us.  I also take everything Cossell says for gospel, since he is so good and rarely misses, i.e. saying Fitzmagic would have a good year.

Yeah, processing speed and intelligence are different things and the difference matters a lot imo. If Mett can't process quicker, (and Dilfer isn't on a limb saying that's an area for improvement because I've heard others say it), the Mett will ultimately prove a tease of one sort or another.

I don't disagree with those points made.
