What's with the Bjorn Werner love?

I just don't get it.

He's a nice player, and wouldn't be a horrible pick, but you pick at 10 for a guy with an elite skill. Werner does nothing elite. And he's not an overly big guy either.

Just listened to Part one of the podcast and I respect you guys' opinions, but I just don't get it.

You don't win ACC defensive player of the year with only average skills. He's the only DE I would even consider taking at #10.

Past ACC defensive players of the year:

Werner

Kuechly

DaQuan Bowers

Derrick Morgan

Mark Herzlich

Chris Long

Gaines Adams

D'Qwell Jackson

Leroy Hill

Darnell Dockett

EJ Henderson

LeVar Fisher

Keith Adams

Anthony Poindexter

Andre Wadsworth

Peter Boulware

Marcus Jones

Derrick Alexander

Derrick Brooks

Werner is consistent

Rushes the passer, defends the run... High motor, great character, and leader...

He is a natural... He is a football player... And I would love for him to be a Titan...

Plus we usually draft well when we take FSU players... Just sayin...

Werner does nothing elite. And he's not an overly big guy either.

Werner is 256 pounds with 23.5 career sacks (he dropped 10-15 pounds last season, so he could be bigger if needed)

Mingo is 240 pounds with 14 career sacks

Ansah is 267 pounds with 4.5 career sacks

Jordan is 243 pounds with 14.5 career sacks

I'm high on Werner because he is the only defensive end in this class that can come in, start on day one, play all three downs, make an impact rushing the passer effectively, and has a very very low risk of busting. Every other DE has at least one huge red flag. In a draft that generally lacks elite talent, I think it's more important to avoid the red flag than it is to reach for a guy who you think is a huge project and risk at #10.

I've been a fan of the guy for awhile now. If you listened to the podcast and heard why Notsolegato and Cyrus explained that he'd be a really good pick for us, combined with the bust rate of some of the more dynamic pass-rushers that appear in every draft, I don't know what argument would really sway you that he'd be a great pick at 10.

And like Jonboy said above, the comparisons to Morgan after the way he played at the end of last season should in no way be a knock on the guy. If we got a full seasons worth of that type of production from both of our ends, we'd be in a very good position.

I agree but is that all you're looking for out of a top 10 pick? It's not all I'm looking for.

Maybe mid-late 1st but not top 10.
