Fun mock drafting game

Just tried trading into a bunch of 2nd and 3rd round picks to see what it would do for the score...

Had 3 twos and 9 threes... 25 picks overall. I made my 24th pick and it reset me. LAME.

Not convinced I was doing anything anyway. My confidence in rounds 3 through 4 is low.

How does that score better? The scoring system seems really, really weak.

How does that score better? The scoring system seems really, really weak.

Because value drives it.

Floyd at 5 is good value.

Cyprien that late in the third is tremendous. He is an A in the mid second.

My 2nd 4th-1st 6th and my 2nd 7th are all As in the round ahead at the same spot.

Those of you getting Khaled Holmes in the 7th are getting a huge bump because of that. He is an A in the 5th.

@WG53 But you gave up a future first, right. You essentially spent two firsts on Floyd and your second and third on Cyprien?

No, I traded down 3 times from R3 pick 8 and got Cyprien.

I traded my first in 2013 & 2014, R2 pick 8, my 5th to get Floyd. I made up many more picks trading down in the third.

To approximate better...

You started with the 1st round 10th, the 2nd round 8th, R5 #9 and the future first. You got Floyd, Cyprien, two 4ths, 5th, and a 6th.

And every one of those picks Cyprien included were great value. All were As at the same spot a round earlier except Schwenke. Edited by WG53

Yeah, you swapped something in the fifth but I left it out for simplicity.  You also spent a third on Cyprien and I forgot to add that.

Simplified (because I'm ignoring the 5th round swap) you did:

Two first round picks, a second round and a third round pick for Floyd, Cyprien, two 4ths and a 6th.

That's got to be better than trade value chart, but so are a lot of these.  I guess I don't see the big advantage to that over some of the others... maybe just a preference thing.

The problem with your thinking here in regards to the grading system is you are focusing on what round the pick is. The scoring is higher due to who is picked at that spot.

Cyprien is a 2nd rounder picked late third. Commings is a 4th picked in the fifth. Frederick a 3rd in the mid 4th. Dysert a late 4th in the mid 6th. McCloud a mid 6th at a 7th comp.

The real problem with my grading system is my grasp on value past round 3 maybe 4 is low. I ignore draft until after FA (about now) but then submerge. I was just looking at the first few rounds and then adding in picks obtained or lost. If there's value all the way through... no way I'd know at this point.

Come Thursday I'll be much more well-read... or just ask questions. Either way, we're recording a draft podcast and I'm working overtime to catch up.
