Jared Cook and the Aaron Hernandez Deal

Hernandez has Tom Brady throwing. TN had a turd throwing to Cook. The thing that GM's pay for is Yds per catch.. Cook is outstanding. Cook can not help it if his QB's did not find him but when they did his production was far better than most TE's. If Cookie was on the Pats, GB, or NE he would be with Graham and Gronkokowski. He is that good. He just plays for a team who is inept on offense because of their scheme. Hopefully things change with Jake and I think they will........for a very certain reason.

Cook is going to explode this season

There's been talk in the media recently, and locally here on Titans Report, that the Titans will be looking toward possibly locking up Jared Cook to a contract extention. And now that Aaron Hernandez

Cook (so far) is no Gronkowski, Hernandez, or Gates. Just because he's athletic doesn't mean he's a great player. First of all, he's pretty one dimensional because he has never been a decent blocker.

Cook is likely to get a lot more looks with Locker. His speed is a stretch the field type and not quick, timed routes which suited MH better. I think we will probably see good things from him this s

I don't care what he runs. He's dropped a lot of catchable balls that a better TE catches. Thats on him. I do think he will be a good fit with Locker. I think thats already shown some fruit both with his catch in preseason and a long gain in the regular season.

That is Cook's biggest problem... inconsistency catching the ball. It doesn't matter what routes he runs... if he can't clasp the ball what does it matter? 60% is BS for an allegedly premiere tight end.

According to PFF, Hernandez has the 10th worst drop rate among all TE Cook isn't on the list

Vernon Davis has the most dropped passes since 09

Pettigrew, Celek, D Clark, D Keller, Finley, Fred Davis, and Marcedes Lewis are also on the list of most dropped passes

well there's that whole 'blocking' thing that TEs are occassionally burdened with,... or else they would just be bigger, slower WRs

I was going to post about how it seems that every preseason we talk about how this will be Cook's breakout season. But I am hoping that with Jake in there now, maybe it will finally happen.

Cook (so far) is no Gronkowski, Hernandez, or Gates. Just because he's athletic doesn't mean he's a great player. First of all, he's pretty one dimensional because he has never been a decent blocker. And as a receiver, his route running and quickness are not as good as any of those guys.

He has great speed for a guy his size, but it's not all about speed. Otherwise, Ben Troupe would have been a star.

Cook has definitely improved as a blocker. Of course, he's never gonna be a road grader with his size. Then again, Gronkowski can't juke a safety and burn them deep, Cook can. He has his own skillset.

If the passing game improves and we get the LBs and S respecting the deep pass more earnestly, I imagine Cook will suddenly look much better as a blocker too. Blocking is easier when you don't telegraph every run and you can threaten the entire field. Keeps the defense from cheating in and swarming.

I actually have to agree with Bongo that we use Cook in a lot more short crossing routes than I understand. He really should be threatening the seams -- of course, a 6-5 TE needs to be able to consistently outjump the DB and grab the ball at its highest point. We've yet to see Cook demonstrate that type of catching ability, or Locker the touch and accuracy needed to place those balls. His athletic catch the other night had TD potential if Locker delivered it correctly -- Cook had enough space to make a move on the safety after the catch.

Cook isn't a top tier TE like a Gronk/Graham/Davis/Hernandez/Finley. Why worry about paying him? Just keep drafting TEs until you find the right guy.

Finley led all TE in dropped passes last season

And his best two seasons aren't a big stretch from what Cook did

09: 55 rec 676 yards 12.3 avg 5 TD

11: 55 rec 767 yards 13.9 avg 8 TD

Cook (first full season): 49 catches 759 yards 15.5 avg 3 TD

Cook has more receptions (87) his first three seasons than Finley's first three seasons (82)

http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/11325/jermichael-finley

Davis has led all TE in dropped passes (24) since 09 and was a flat out bust early in his career who got humiliated by Singletary

Cook has more receiving yards (1194) than Davis (1132) and only 16 fewer catches (103 to 87) his first three seasons, and Davis was the 6th pick overall and a starter those three full seasons

unlike Cook

http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/9592/vernon-davis

Cook also has a higher YPC avg (13.7) compared to Finley (13.3) and Davis (12.5)

Cook is weak in the short passing and running games, he's not a red zone player and it shows in his low TDs. I don't see him as a guy who strikes fear in the heart of defenses.

Cook will never be Graham or Gates. He is not agile. You want to know why he predominately runs crossing routes? It's because his long stride and lack of change of direction limits him.

False.. Cook sealed the edge on one of the CJ TD runs this preseason.. He gets to the edge and gets his blocks.. He has become a much better blocker..

Finley may be somewhat overrated, but Cook is nowhere near the player that Davis has been the last couple of seasons.

In your previous post, you said Finley is a top tier TE

Now he's somewhat overrated, ok

Davis is entering his 7th season

Cook is in his 4th and it's his 2nd seeing a lot of playing time

Talk about Cook being inconsistent, Davis has been more inconsistent

He dropped more passes than anyone since 09
