Would you rather...

Would you rather have......

1) a receiver who catches the ball 90% of the time but gets no yards after the catch...

or....

2) a receiver who catches the ball 50% of the time and gets yardage after the catch...sometimes lots of yards.

????????

Yes, I hope T.O gets cut by SEA so we can sign him.

T.O (questionable hands but OMG the YAC)

or Cris Carter (one of the greatest possession receivers of all time, maybe the best if argued correctly)

Honestly, I'd go with T.O because when it comes to WR I like flash. But Cris Carter is obviously a safe choice that nobody could go wrong with.

*Jerry rice is the best of all time because he was the best at both

Hmm...

Let x = total number of yards attempted to be thrown to receiver #1

Let y = total number of yards attempted to be thrown to receiver #2

Let z = total YAC by receiver #2

Then

Total yards gained by receiver #1 = .9x

Total yards gained by receiver #2 = .5y + z

So we need to compare ".9x" to ".5y + z"

So we then ... ah screw it. I hate math problems.

lol @Denali you just lost me bro

I'm horrible with math

But to the OP I would take a receiver who catches the ball every time it was thrown

pretty much saying ill take Jason Witten over Jared Cook

Witten is not the greatest after the catch, but has unreal mitts.

Cook is inconsistent with his hands, but when he does have the rock he gets good yac

I got to thinking about this the other day....I'd take a WR who has great hands and catches the ball 90% of the time but usually doesn't get yacs. At least you're moving the chains consistently with him.

You take the guy that catches it. No question.

Now if you're talking separation/ability to get open then that's another matter. If the guy that catches it is very rarely open so you can rarely throw it too him then it becomes a tougher decision.

I think it depends on who else you have on your roster, if you have 2 solid possession receivers you take the guy with big play ability, if you have a big play guy but no one reliable you take the dependable receiver.

If you can only have one receiver I would take the reliable guy as well, rather move down the field 5-10 yards at a time consistently rather than a bunch of 3 and outs mixed in with big plays.

The problem with this question is no WR catches the ball 90% of the time, at least not 90% of the passes thrown his way.

If you're talking about catchable passes no WR drops 50% of those.

Either way the easy answer is the guy catching 90% of the passes and it's not close.

The question is assuming all passes are catchable for discussion. I haven't looked up stats on WR's catching percentage...if there is one. I bet there is somewhere for fantasy football....which I don't have time for. lol.
