NashvilleNinja
So wtf is the deal with this overbearing verification nonsense lately? I get that bots are an issue, but this is heavy handed and counterproductive.

abenjami
I'm sick of it too. I am also sick of all the unnecessary 2FA stuff that has been going on for a while now. We don't need 2FA everywhere. titanruss

I think we should all be able to sue captcha for working to train their ai for free for the last decade and a half.

I am also sick of all the unnecessary 2FA stuff that has been going on for a while now. We don't need 2FA everywhere. I don't know if 2FA is necessarily the problem. I think passwords are a burdensome and outdated form of security that have only had their inevitable replacement delayed by password managers. Those help by making password management more robust but they aren't fool-proof. Just look at Last Ass... I mean, Pass. Having 2 forms of authentication is a good thing, especially for sensitive accounts, but they should be replaced with other forms than passwords. OTP authenticator codes + a physical security key should be enough. But I'm not an IT security expert so take that with a grain of sand. @Starkiller @TitansGuru Thoughts? Starkiller
There’s always a balance between security and usability. If it’s easy for you to get into your account, it’s easy for someone else to get into it, too… In this case, Cloudflare gets hit by DDoS attacks and the “are you a human” box you have to check blocks a lot of that. So it’s annoying but it’s better than the whole site being down. In terms of 2FA, you don’t need it for something unimportant. But if there’s money involved or it’s an account that’s effectively your online identity (email, Twitter, Facebook, whatever) then use 2FA. Preferably something more secure than a text message. TitansGuru
If it wasn't for Cloudflare the site would be down right now. It's only used for image caching on the site and DDOS protection. We had a DDOS attack last night which brought the site down while I slept until I turned it back on. IsntLifeFunny, titanruss, and OILERMAN

It would detect unusual traffic patterns or when the site was accessed from certain VPNs and would have the extra verification step. I turned it off and we were hit with a million requests over a short period so I turned it back on early this morning. IsntLifeFunny

Lol I was asking just because of the frequency I'd been seeing it with other sites I go to. I remember a site being stuck in a verification loop and wouldn't stop. I switched to Firefox and was able to get there so I guess there was something in Brave's security settings the site didn't like. I definitely see the need for it. The outage yesterday being a big flashing neon sign of proof.
