Jamalisms
FIFA is such shit I have reservations supporting them but I've been dreaming of going to the World Cup since it was last in the US 30 years ago and I don't want to wait another 30 years. I didn't win the damn presale lottery ... but my brother did. He's been flipping tickets for double already but I was able to nab some through him. Looks like I'm headed to KC for the round of 32. No idea who's gonna play but pretty excited. Anybody else planning to go or already got tickets? Pragidealist, and titanruss 1

heyitsmeallen
I wanted to try and get tickets to a match but there isn’t one within 14 hours of me. Bummed that DC didn’t get it because that’s like a 2.5 hour drive and could be a day trip. I guess I could fly somewhere. Maybe Atlanta and I could see a Braves game and a World Cup match in the same week
Stan
Soccer is possibly one of the hardest sports to play, I tried playing and had this little 5’6 Irish guy dive at my legs and I wanted to fight him, got hit me in the shin so hard I wanted to throw up, had a bruise for months. It’s the single hardest sport to play in terms off strategy and understanding gameplay.

Skills requirement is the highest outside of maybe Hockey... but since half the world plays soccer, the overall talent level as you work up is much higher than hockey. titanruss
Just saw Messi choke away a PK and a chance to take over the lead as the all-time scorer. Then his team gives him a great low crosser that a teammate leaves for him to take the title for himself. Pretty cool to see. Glad I've gotten to see him 3x now at NSC games. He got a hat trick in one of those and I just chuckled at how bad our league must be, but in reality he scores a lot anywhere and maybe we arent so low after all. freakingeek
I watched about 1/4 of the games. It's been great sports viewing. I'm not ready to dive into MLB yet so it's been a good alternative for my sports addiction. The USA team has a pretty good chance to make a run. Mythos27
It definitely benefits us but crooked Donny is at it again. He leaned on the FIFA president to overturn the red card our best striker got last game. Even if we somehow win, our victory will now be tarnished. This guy really knows how to turn everything to shit. As if we aren't hated enough. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/05/us/trump-fifa-balogun-world-cup.html

Absolutely ridiculous to give a red card on that play. That referee should be prohibited from officiating again. He was previously involved in some shady shit and accused of fixing matches by handing out ridiculous red cards just like that. Also, LOL at the Euro soccer "expert" they had on Sportscenter tonight who couldn't stop crying about the decision, claiming FIFA just ruined the integrity of the game. No they didn't dipshit, they finally did what other major sports do, they look at it after the fact and if there is something wrong going on, they use their powers to fix it. titanruss, and SleepingTitan

Reynaldo was supposed to sit out 2 games when the WC started and they got voided. There's several others. Do I like getting it called back? Not really.. was it the right call to take it back for anyone that wasnt the pariah of the world? yeah. If it had been anyone else, its not a big deal. He missed the rest of the game, [punishment enough for what shoulda been a yellow. it was a bullshit red to begin with and most unbiased observers would agree. Do i think Trump got involved? yeah. So that part of the math sucks. Edited July 6 by titanruss SleepingTitan
titanruss
This has been an incredible WC btw. I could see it getting expanded even more 3-4 cups down the line to where theres a double elim or something. Pragidealist
abenjami
The red cards have gotten ridiculous IMO. And I'm not just bitching about the one Team USA got. There have been others too where it's just not warranted. I played a ton of competitive soccer growing up. Red cards were reserved for blatant acts, not plays where 2 guys are playing clean and just giving max effort and someone gets rolled up on.
